It doesn't make much sense either way.

Spoiler for Baby switch:

So, I've been wondering... without spoiling anything of ep8 for me(yes/no will suffice) does ep8 explain Umineko as well as Matsuribayashi-hen explained Higurashi?

No. But it sure helps the reader find the answers by reading the whole story again.

Okay so what then about Umineko Hane (as rei was some internet rumor?)? I was wondering if anyone knew the contents. Will it help with solving the end like tips that would cater to this or if it was stories like the last release? Or perhaps nobody really knows XD

Umineko no Naku Koro ni Hane is an extra disk containing two more Tsubasa-like short stories, "Jessica and the Killer Electric Fan" and "Forgery No.XXX". They were supposed to be part of so-called Tsubasa 2, but because Ryuukishi07 didn't have that many new stories ready, he just releases the two new ones as a bonus when you pre-order both Higanbana 2 and Ougon Musou Kyoku CROSS together. It doesn't have the content of Tsubasa, so it's just a small bonus. The new stories aren't actual answers, but they have hints and are funny and interesting.

Separate from Hane, there's going to be a non-game booklet that's called Warera no Kokuhaku, in other words "Our Confession". This 50-page booklet is said to contain direct answers to many mysteries behind the murders in Umineko. This was also going to be part of Tsubasa 2 as a sound novel version, but because Tsubasa 2 didn't make it for this winter, Ryuukishi decided to release it as a booklet. He says that it being in analog format also helps people who wish to avoid spoilers. Both Hane and this very interesting booklet come as bonuses to those who pre-order Higanbana 2 and OMK CROSS together.

I still hope that Tsubasa 2 will eventually come out and collect all of the short stories, "Our Confession" in sound novel format included (and have a tall case so it fits nicely with the other games!). What better time to do that than release it on Higurashi's 10th anniversary next year (hopefully with a re-release of Higurashi in tall cases).

Tall cases. Or some really fancy box!

Do you guys think that the anime format made Umineko even harder to understand?

I got the plot and all, but the VN seems more understandable.

It's probably less the format and more the details that were cut, or maybe it's the absence of internal monologues and exposition.

Well, the format kinda forced them to skip exposition and go right to the more visually noticeable scenes.
I always thought that was a big part of the reason why the manga ended up so much better, that plus the fact that it's a similar medium to the source material.

Just a bit of curiosity here...when I first got into Umineko, EP4 was the newest release, so I hadn't purchased any of the games before that. I was just going over in my head who the file icon (the one that appears in the corner of the program and the taskbar) for EP4, 5, 6, 7 and now 8 were...and then it hit me that I have no idea who the icons representing EP1, 2, and 3 were!! I mean, Battler was 4, so was he also 1? Was Beatrice the icon of anything? I'd assume Evatrice was the icon of EP3...it's pretty pointless and trivial overall, but now I'm just really curious. ^^; Can anyone fill me in on who the icons were for EP1, 2 and 3?

Did the C81 "Our Confession" booklet actually give the missing bits or help out to solve? Just a simple yes or no would suffice ^-^"
