Easy targets are good practice for when you have to mock someone possessing spelling and grammar skills higher than your own.

Sure it would be. Think about it: Ninjas, monsters, and aliens have all tried to kill Batman, and all have failed. But if, at the end, all it took was a single bullet in a moment of surprise, wouldn't that be ironic? actually.. Joker shot Barbara rendering her paralyzed from the waist down, forcing to retire, and beat the crap out of the 2nd Robin (Jason Todd) and left if to die in an explosion.
but just like Steve Irwin, it wasn't his rival/arch-nemesis who killed him but it was a mook by the name of Darkseid (ok, not really a mook) jsut a couple of months back...

and now, the 3 robins, Dick, Jason and Tim, is battling out in a 3 way no holds bar blood bath in Gotham to see who takes the cowl

And then suspension of disbelief is lifted and Joker finds the "Why don't they just shoot him?" principle attached to him. Given that in universe Joker has killed thousands of people, there's no good excuse as to why he hasn't been executed the instant he gets handed over to the cops.
