Well, "old" as in 10 years old afaik, but yeah Captain Zeon's been around for a while, though this would be the first time he's making an appearance in a Gundam animated work.

So Build Divers VR gimmick allows references to all these snippets in the Lore, which I find rather brilliant, wonder if they’ll do one of the 08th MS in-universe TV show that had the characters going to space to continue the fight.

Wow this guy should fly punch a Gundam instead playing a Gundam to fight another Gundam.

I had fun with the original Build Fighter.
Sei and Reiji as main characters was so enjoyable.
There were things like Gunpla Idol and Gunpla Mafia.
So this is nothing like that?

And this Captain Zeon, I wonder if this character is going to be interesting like Meijin?

Gundam Build Divers (GBD) took place (most likely) in different universe from GBF.

The entire premise of GBD is the protags playing a VRMMORPG where players use their gunplas to fight other players, but it won't cause physical damage like the Plavsky GP system in GBF.

The premise itself sounds interesting but the execution of such premise in GBD is atrociously dumb. In overall, GBD is at best a "meh" series:

• The MC is a Gary Stu (complete with a Deus Ex Waifu) unless the plot demands him to lose.
• The game-logic doesn't make sense when it comes to the bigger picture (yes, it's even worse than SAO).
• Many supporting characters are either uninteresting, underdeveloped, have dumb motivation, rely more on their physical appearance to appeal to the audience or combinations of those factors. I like the main antagonist of the first half, Tigerwolf & Champ, but that's only because the other characters are just blander than them.

Pretty much the only redeeming qualities of GBD are the mecha designs, the standalone comedic episodes, and characters from the side-story manga actually appear and are voiced in the main show. The other elements are either so-so or just plain bad.

Captain Zeon did not appear in the first GBD, and we don't know how his character will be portrayed in this upcoming GBD RR.

I'm just gonna warn everyone not to get hyped up for Captain Zeon. Due to the VRMMORPG-nature of GBD, he's probably just gonna be an avatar/skin of a player in RR instead of the real character. So, please temper your expectation.

GBD turning out as it did was even worse if you consider that the Prologue episode was HYPE as all hell, with an awesome battle and awesome animation, thus giving the expectation that it was going to be an awesome series. Then the series proper came out and it turned out.... average. I really wouldn't say bad by any means since there are worse out there, but all that squandered potential

It was pretty average. A lot of people here and elsewhere were needlessly harsh, with some of the people here I respected turning off their brains for it, which is terrible to see, but yes, it was unfortunately average. It had the occasional moment of brilliance, but otherwise it felt like the writing was done by interns who were sticking way too close to conservation of detail. That and the 00 Sky's design felt like executive meddling because it was the Destiny only worse, and had no evolution from the 00 Diver Ace.

It was far from utterly terrible though. A lot of people just have hate boners for it because it once again didn't feature their precious Reiji so they could rehash GBF. Re:RISE will apparently have more accomplished writers involved, and the setting overall has way more potential than GBF/T did, which is pigeon-holed into tournaments.

Inorin and a Panzer girl commander in Gundam finally. I just hope they make it better than GBD. The series was somewhat a letdown.

Also, Freddy's VA is Ai Kakuma, to correct. Same VA as Gaelio's sister in Gundam IBO.

Even I, who was defending GBD from its announcement to its airing (you can look it back in the general thread & episodic threads) was severely disappointed and underwhelmed by the quality of its writing and forced-angst ever since episode 5 onwards. And this is me who generally going into a Gundam show wanting to love it. As I said in my previous post above, GBD is at best a "meh" show. Even though the writing (for the serious/angsty episodes) was really bad, I still like the mecha designs. And hey, I actually like 00 Sky which you seem to not fancy.

So yeah, not all people who dislike GBD do so out of blind hating coz its not GBF. Even many people who went in with optimism/open mind like me ended up being greatly disappointed.
