Microsoft slips user-tracking tools into Windows 7, 8 amidst Windows 10 privacy storm: "Windows 10 is a deliciously good operating system, all things considered, but its abundant user-tracking has prompted many privacy- minded individuals to stay pat with older versions of Windows. Now, Microsoft’s providing those concerned individuals a reason to upgrade. No, the company’s not walking back its privacy-encroaching features. Instead, Microsoft’s quietly rolling out updates that bake new tracking tools into Windows 7 and Windows 8. Yes, really." Quick question(s): So, I was wondering, I currently have a sh*t ton of anime and some other things (music mainly) on my computer that are, for all intents and purposes, not truly legal; if I update to Windows 10 will these files be flagged somehow? If so, would simply moving them to an external hard drive solve the problem?
Sorry if this question has been asked already, I did a cursory search here and didn't see it right away. |

No. The only things getting flagged is pirated apps from the app store and Xbox live stuff. People didn't read the terms of service correctly |

don’t “reserve” a copy: "According to The Inquirer, the situation was first reported by an anonymous reader who claimed to have discovered a hidden directory called $Windows.~BT on his computer, despite not opting in for a free upgrade to Windows 10. The directory weighed in at "3.5GB to 6GB," according to the reader. “I thought Microsoft [said] this 'upgrade' was optional. If so, why is it being pushed out to so many computers where it wasn't reserved, and why does it try to install over and over again?” he told the outlet." Oh no, I wasn't excusing MS in anyway...I personally loathe them and their smart ass decisions. But in the absence of a viable alternative OS at the moment that can run the bulk of the programs most users use, it's the best course you can take. Unless you are willing to take the trade offs that Linux offers

Microsoft tries to clear the air on Windows 10 privacy
furor: "Executives in Redmond were caught flat-footed after this summer's Windows 10 launch by charges that the new operating system is spying on customers. Several new statements for consumers and IT pros today aim to explain why those accusations are unfounded." See: http://www.zdnet.com/article/microso...privacy-furor/ |

I really don't know why people are griping about windows 10 spying on them since even windows 8 and 8.1 spy on what you're doing and send that information back to M$.
My experience is a case in point since after I started playing the PC version of world of tanks I received an email from the xBox side of M$ with it recommending the xBox360 of world of tanks (which is a console I don't even own, but the account is required for the games app). |

I'm hoping to get a little advice here
I'm in the market for getting a new laptop (I've had my current one for about 7 years and it's starting to fail on me), and with Black Friday coming up here in the US... well, the best deals are going to be targeted at laptops with Windows 10, especially Toshibas. Now, a good chunk of my activities including getting anime by fan-based means, as I'm going to put (aka torrent). Is it still safe to get Windows 10, considering the whole privacy thing, or should I stick with say, windows 7/8, assuming I can find them still?
