True. But Fine is really just like Wakaba. Her hair, her eyes color, her boobs, everything. Even her personality is kinda like Wakaba too. That's not criticism though. I really like Wakaba. I wish I liked Fine as much.

For crying out loud, man, have patience. The series has barely begun, and it's patently obvious from the way this episode was structured that Izetta is going to get more screen time in the future. Relax.

It's not like I'm dropping it just yet. Didn't I say I was gonna give the the show one more episode?

But if that's the case with this show I'm gonna drop it. It's just not what I was expecting.

I just came in blind into this after spotting the show on CR and thankfully I did: that first episode had everything going for it from the visuals, going past the very striking soundtrack and right into the "not-europe in not-ww2" setting. I'm very pleasantly surprised by the show and I was especially taken by how strong Fine's character seems to be. Now to be fair I've been burned more than enough times by these early XXth century Europe styled shows to know that the standard 3 episode rule still applies but I'm most definitely liking what I'm seeing. This'll be one of my top picks for the season for now.

Ending the first episode with the Witch's triumphant revival is just a nice dramatic way of doing things. Sometimes a narrative holds back a little on the truly special lead character so that their first appearance has great impact. I remember some 80s/90s cartoons being like this, as well as certain Superman movies. Once the special star of the show makes their dramatic entrance, they tend to become more prominent and get a lot of screen-time. I'm pretty confident the same will be true of Izetta. Now, Fine might actually get more focus/screen-time overall, but even if so, I doubt there'll be a huge difference from Episode 2 on.

Like I said, I'm gonna give it one more episode, but if this is the case, I'm gonna drop it. The show I wanted to watch is the story of a witch. That was how it was originally advertised and it's the reason I got interested in it. Fine is pretty cool, but if this show is primarily her story, I'll pass on it for now. Maybe I'll watch it in a few months if I'm in the mood for that sort of thing. But not right now.

Episode 1
So this is taking place during World War II. Germany is attacking their neighbors and are threatening the little Eylstadt nearby. So the princess is off to the neutral state nearby to meet the British ambassador to have them come to their aid. The British are reluctant because they already suffered losses while in the mainlands. Plus, helping a tiny country would probably not be feasible enough since they don't have much to offer when they can use those men somewhere else. Eylstadt doesn't have much to offer so Finč is offering herself to Prince Henry. She's that desperate to save her country. But the Germans have already attacked before she could manage a deal with the British. And on board the plane where Finč was, Izetta awakens and blows the plane in half because the princess was hurt. And the nopan witch riding her giant rifle saves the falling princess. I don't understand people being upset over not enough Izetta. It's pretty obvious that she'll be playing a big role in this war given her direct relationship with Finč who is the princess of a country just attacked by the Germans. This episode was just introducing the situation and leading to the introduction of Izetta who is the witch of legend and is in high demand. Finč had an encounter with Izetta in the past and they remember each other from that encounter. Finč was cute. She's an interesting character. The setting has me interested. It mainly has normal people and weapons and stuff with the exception of Izetta so that's good. The lesser the magic the better. The animation and artwork as a whole was pretty okay. I think I'll stick around with this show. Unless my Saturdays get full with other better shows. |

OK, first episode, and I'm liking what I see so far. An interesting combination of a relatively realistic pseudo-World War II, complete with plenty of well-drawn military hardware- Panzer IVs, Stukas etc, with the lone fantasy element of Izetta. Though the German... I mean Germanian... officer's golden Luger P08 with an SAS motto on the side makes no sense.
Also liking the main characters, namely a duo of two badass female leads, a "badass normal" princess and an equally awesome witch who trades her broomstick for a boomstick (sorry for copying another person's comment earlier in the forum. Also, yuri-bait. On a random note, between Izetta and me downloading the PTRS-41 mod in Fallout 4, my media today has been rather saturated with WWII anti-tank rifles! |

Ep 01
I actually found myself enjoying the first episode quite a bit. Who knows where they will go from here, but I thought they made a good start. Was anyone else reminded of the scene from Nausicaa walking through the "golden field" when Izetta's magic "gathered" both early on and just before the plan conked out? Not only visuals but the bgm singing both brought the Nausicaa scene to mind for some reason.... Will definitely give the next ep or two a try.

I'm not sure about this one. I honestly liked it more before the MC woke up. I would have been happy seeing the fantasy WWII play out. I actually kind of felt the last few minutes were the worst.
I'll watch another episode, but I'm not really sure if I'll stick with this.
