Though yes, with the somewhat focus on Ai in this episode, one wonders why she isn't displayed more prominently in the OP. Her combination of cuteness and hardassery should land her her own series!

LOL Episode 20 had a huge tribute to Gunbuster that old school anime watchers should recognize right away. PE Coach Kane is giving tribute to Coach Kouichirou from Gunbuster. How he keeps on insisting the students to call him "coachie" was absolutely hilarious and brought back so many memories. They even went with the sunglasses and kendo sword! That was just awesome.

This arc may be the best yet and might be creatively fantastic, but it's sort of a downer too, as it might be difficult to put these characters and subplots in a second season. Or maybe they'll resolve it somehow.

I'd like to see the Bentenmaru actually LAND in the series' future, not dock in space, but LAND on a planet.

If it could land, it would be a sea plane. Too many things hanging out from under it.

It'd only be that if what they used wasn't a dedicated weapon. I got the impression that their bow cannon was an actual weapon, and not a repurposed deflector

I'm pretty sure the bow did not have a cannon attached, and so it would've been a repurposed... something.

Unless that was a hidden Wave Motion Phaser.

Having recently watched Index 1 & 2 + Railgun, "ONEEEEEE-SAMAAAA!!" is forever as Kuroko in my head.

But this week in anime also had another Gunbuster reference over in Eureka 7 AO. Everyone just loves Gunbuster, haha.

Is Gunbuster the first in that regards as well? ONEE-SAMA is quite unforgettable, I do admit. However, in this series, we already have someone who constantly calls out "onee-sama"... Grunhilde.

Could the guy in the cloak be Kane's brother that someone put up art for earier? wasn't he with the Galactic Empire? Thus could the Gamactic Empire be getting directly involved in keeping Marika save?

Also it will be interesting to see just what group is targeting Marika from the outside, and if it has anything to do with the high school, the tournament, or the administration group that called on Show for some illegal activities to counter the High School Yacht Club's five year old reputation.

And I am very curious what that weapon in the bow is. That was not the standard main guns firing. but that was not powerful enough to be a typical Wave Motion Gun weapon (those things can destroy continents the size of Europe.)
