The second half of the episode was beautiful. This is a great adaptation so far. It looks gorgeous and the soundtrack is perfect.

Episode 2

Lol the race between Hikari and Kotori-sensei. And it turns out that Kotori-sensei is into diving too and she will probably be the diving club's advisor. Futaba is getting pulled into Hikari's world. Hikari is leading Futaba around with her weirdness which is making Futaba do stuff she wouldn't normally do. Hikari is extremely childish while Futaba is much more mature and composed. Hikari's weirdness is probably gonna rub on Futaba a bit. Hope it doesn't though. And Futaba is so honest with herself. She was curious about the diving suits and she admits she's curious instead of denying it and then later on regretting it. Futaba made a friend and got introduced to the water world on her second day of school. She's starting to look forward to going to the unknown school in the unknown land. Really liking this show.

That shot with Futaba in the water and the petals next to hear. It's a perfect wallpaper. That whole sequence was beautiful

And yes, Futaba, she's a weirdo, but a very fun, heart warming one.

Just started watching this and I love it. Pikari is weird and far too genki but just like with Nodame Cantabile, Kenichi Kasai really knows how to sell the audience on a weird main character.

In spite of the bizarre muppet faces dominating half the scenes, every shot is beautiful, the colors, the soundtrack, just wow. The action is a slow burn for sure, but I look forward to learning more about scuba diving and seeing how it romanticizes the world beneath the surface.

I for one love the funny face scenes, if only for their hilarious weirdness.

Spoiler for the horror !:

In the manga, this was the chapter where I learned about ear equalization as well as the principle behind it in such an easy-to-understand format too. Since then, I've used the nose-blowing technique when flying, which helps to ease the ear pain when descending. Thanks Amano-sensei

Also, Pikari and Teko are totally BFF Les-

Episode 3

So Futaba is still having trouble getting used to the new school and making friends. She mustered up some courage to go and join a group of girls, but decided against it because she felt it was impossible. And then Pikari shows up to her relief.

And Futaba learns stuff about diving. Like how the changes in pressure can cause problems and how to avoid them etc. before going for actual diving. Lol Pikari moving her jaw left and right. And after hearing almost everyone calling Hikari Pikari, she ends up calling her Pikari too.

Ah, the good old valsalva technique. Learned that when I was learning how to fly, with horror stories of people flying with a blocked nose and having their eardrums burst.

Good episode, which shows that there's research gone into the diving topic.

In this case, it's actually less about research, and more that IIRC Kozue Amano (the author) herself is an experienced diver, and thus she's really just bringing everything she knows about her hobby into the manga.

"Allowed." And why not? No one there is oging to sue her for it. It's not going to harm anyone. Frankly, I doubt it was even particularly painful.

Something's been bothering me with the club room.

I always had the feeling that the girl in the Palau poster on the wall was a bit too familiar to those of us who followed Aria but that just isn't the case in the Anime. I just went and rechecked this episodes' manga chapter and I still see the similarity but I was wonder if it was just me assuming something that wasn't there

Onto the episode: when I read Amanchu* what always struck me was how much I was actually learning about something I knew practically nothing about. In this episode I felt just like Teko and completely missed the crucial implication of pressure changes when the teacher asked her what was the absolute rule of diving. It makes it really easy for me to identify with the main character of the show.

Also I must say that the adaptation so far has been absolutely spot on. Everything is translating absolutely flawlessly and even if anything is missing it doesn't really feel like it is. Great job by the anime team there.

Of course the soundtrack is also absolutely stellar so far. There was one particular guitar instrumental that came up just before Pikari and Teko went to the club room that I found so extremely invoking of Chrono Club's work in Aria that I couldn't help but smile. I absolutely must pick up the soundtrack to this show. I'm still bitter that I couldn't get Aria: The Box since I only picked up that show after the final season had come and gone.

Oh and btw, I wasn't a great fan of the opening song at the start but now I can't help but smile listening to it. Not as striking as the Aria openings but still a great effort even if it's missing the scenery porn of that show.

* I've always found it hard to keep to manga schedules. sorry

Now is where Amanchu really starts. I pity the people who dropped it on the basis of episode 1 alone.

I loved learning about diving in the manga, and I'm loving reviewing what I learned with the anime. Never really noticed it before (lost in translation?), or perhaps I simply forgot, Teko's catchphrase seems to be "denied!".

I've seen people wearing wetsuits and carrying snorkel and scuba gear getting off the train at Itō (the town Amanchu! is set in), it's a Mecca for divers and handily not too far from Tokyo and Yokohama for day-trippers.
