I really don't think they will change the fact taht Mao is dead.

I think the person in the wheelchair is Ranzo Saotome (Alto's dad). Why do i think that? well because apparently Sheryl will be sick because of the v-type infection like in the series, she will go to the hospital and there she will meet Alto's dad (and because in the last couple of episodes, ranzo was shown in a wheelchair

).

Or maybe it could be someone from SMS, Mr Birler or even Grace

Same, probably an OVA. I want to see a female pilot in the love triangle myself. The closest this has ever happened was Mylene and... well... she just Basaraed around, and the next closest thing is Sheryl, who actually touches the controls of a Valkyrie. Decided lack of female pilots in general, not that they don't exist, just... not very many.

Anyway, speculation on the second movie: Sheryl will probably be sick again, and I expect her plot arch as established in 18-25 will be present in some way. The changes to this will be interesting.

Side note, I absolutely LOVE the new art of Sheryl at the piano. Someone put a lot of attention to detail in that one, and Sheryl looks lovely (as usual I suppose).

Just like from the tv series when she sings "yousei"
Her singing style is more sad, and slow paced... More calm...

And with a sound of piano.... WOW... It is gonna be beautifull T T

Spoiler for Needs you to have seen the first movie: Also interesting if Alto sucking her blood in the first movie will go anywhere if Sheryl is sick. There is still a chance she isn't sick at all, but the teaser stuff for the second movie shows that scene where Grace is evil and infects her. I thought she looked a bit older, I mean assuming it is Sheryl, in the movie trailer than she did in the series in that shot. Her figure doesn't look fully developed (though she is laying down) but she does look taller than she did as a kid, her overall shape seems to be more like a teenager. Or maybe she gets infected in the movie itself, which could be an interesting plot twist if so, like Grace offering it for Sheryl to do to save the fleet.
