This works both ways; in「 Onani Master Kurosawa 」the main girl [if she can be called that] is just too much of a wierdo -- its somewhat romantic, but in a sick way (ie. she blackmails him into humiliating everyone around her). I always get annoyed in romance anime how the childhood friend almost never wins, and most typically follow the "first come, first serve" rule. It annoys the hell outta me.

See, to me, that just kinda makes sense because it's not that realistic. I mean, how many people do you know are currently dating the girl they knew since they were three?

I think it doesn't work because all of the chemistry is gone and you're practically brother and sister your whole lives...

It's like a curse or something. The last girl on the list NEVER WINS. If she is to have any hope of winning she has to be in a secondary main group, or be a super special mysterious individual.

That's because the author usually needs a character to fill the space, then later on it's like...."wait who?.... Let me write some bullshit about cool shit exploding/fighting demons/monsters, nobody will notice I was lazy!" Naturally, you get some pretty generic stuff. But it's better than some cases where they don't even try and said character just plain vanishes.

Not quite what I meant. I was referring to when the main character picks someone who he just met (relatively speaking) over someone he's known nearly his whole life. Now if you ask me, THAT makes no sense.

I don't really get in on the shipping thing, so I generally don't care who ends up with who as long as the process is believable and interesting.

doesnt really bother me that much but what really shits me is when it is left ambiguous and open. i just cannot stand that.

Onani Master Kurosawa + the after story was my second favourite manga of all time me personally i loved the way it ended with everything being tied up and seeing how the characters developed and ended up after all the trials.

one of my least favourite endings (off the top of my head) would have to be Kampfer.

The worst offenders are Fruit Basket(brainless) and Ouran(living zombies). I'm surprised that lots of shoujo fangirls love these two and hated every other girls than them.

when the child hood friend loses. WHAT THE EFF. in most recent animes i've seen, the main girl is usually the child hood friend, so it works for me because i almost always ship that.

in regards to 5cm/s, its possibly my favorite Shinkai work, and the reason why i hold it in such high regard was because it didn't end the way everyone expected it to.
