Well, dunno why. But i like how they are telling the Story in this anime. In the present they push the story, and sometimes they trow some glimpse of the past...

I like it, i love this balance...

i am curious to know what happened to somebody (high Up one. See her(manly woman) Stars on the chest) lover and how she will react...

So far the art of telling the story 10/10 from me...

With Mushi-Uta done, and Ghost Hound not yet started, this show is filling my "dark and serious" anime needs quite nicely. One thing I'd particularly like to give points for is the amazing colors. What, you say, the colors are mostly kind of muted and not eyecandy?
That's. The. Point!
I'm getting a bit tired of even dramatic animes pushing color schemes that are artificially bright-looking. The colors here look real. The characters look real. Backgrounds are high-enough quality that they look real. I find it much easier to appreciate non-comedies when they're this believable to watch. Oh, and I totally second the "CG not so much in your face" bit. Half the time I can't even tell which parts are 3D modeling vs. 2D... I think the 3D stuff is more prevalent than many people realize. Because it doesn't jump out and grab attention.

BTW I am now accepting avatar requests from Eps 1 and 2. Give me an approximate time frame and I'll see what I can do. Can't do sigs though, I'm not an artist, just an editor.

This show has loads of awesome so far after the second episode. Afterwards I just wanted more, great setup of the story and characters, and the character designs were great. Looking forward to further releases.

Probably so far one of my top 5 shows easily for this season. Ep 2 was pretty cool, I just hope they don't jump the shark and make everything super formulaic, but so far its starting off with high hopes.

Blue Drop continues to amaze me with the elaborated quality of constructing its plot line, and depth in which it immerses to revel upon its characters.

Mari's spunky attitude is very spontaneous because at sometimes she just lets out her emotions in a burst either be frustrated or upset, and at others she keeps herself composed when cheering or feeling happy.

Contrary to Mari, Hagino's elegance and subtle stoicism acts as the foil for the emotional Mari.

In addition, the ending song is beautiful because it matches with the scope of the storyline.

The great sorrow and pains that bring me forth the memory of a terrible tragedy to which the fates of both girls have met and have started to intertwine.

Hurdles, hardships, deceit, and sorrows will now be tested upon Hagino and Mari on their way to find out that they would no longer feel alone but......

It can become a reality for them that at someday everything can be forgiven, and they truly see themselves as two soulmates calling out for each other.

The second episode revealed certain unexpectancies and quite hinted at some others.

Just as Mari was suspecting, Hagino wears a mask. She was too perfect, because she's a commander to an alien starship.

For what purpose she has come to Earth it still remains undisclosed.

But the facts gathered are that whenever she comes across Mari or touches her it triggers a painful memory within her about Mari when the latter was a still a child crying.
1. Mari doesn't remember anything else save for her name before she started to live with her grandmother.

2. From the data that the professor announced back at the private conference. Mari was told she lived in Kamioka island. The island was supposedly swept by a tsunami, which killed the entire population save that she was the only survivor.

3. The truth is that only 55% of the population got killed by the tsunami while the remaining 45% were murdered before the natural disaster arrived.

4. Hagino recalls Mari as the girl from that time.

The puzzle pieces are quite subtle and intricate, but the following speculation can be built upon this:
I presume that Hagino was responsible for launching an attack to Kamioka island, but the thorough details remain in complete mystery whether it was to deter the invasion of another starship, if she made a costly mistake, or the attack was a test to measure if it was feasible or not to prepare for an invasion of the planet in short-term.

On the matter how that memory brings excruciating pain to Hagino and how she went that far as to reaccomodate the rooms so that she'll be roommates with Mari, I suspected that she was responsible as well for killing Mari's parents, relatives, and friends at that time.

But other intriguing mysteries rise up as well.
1. Mari was able to see Tsubael's astral projection.
I assume that the alien technology is highly refined and evolved that for average humans would not be possible to see both the starship and the projected form of the aliens.

2. The light that seemingly emanated from Mari, after being touched by Hagino, did it come from Hagino? or was it Mari's?

My ideas for speculations...

1. 45% murdered..... fear of the Aliens. They are Human alike, so the fear grows in hate and hate leads to destruction. Perhaps they have killed the crew member of the Blue. So Hagino activate some Hypercool weapon of the Blue for revenge, what leads into the Tsunami...

2. Or the officials lies here, there where no tsunami... Perhaps they killed the Island population with Gas, because of fear of aliens...

3. hagino snap out of it, when she saw a little girl crying in the middle of her mess...Voila...

4. mari is a reborn half-alien.. Half part of the crew member and human... The dying cewmembers wished to save the dying human girl, with body fusion?

5. mari is part of the Aliens. her grandmother is not her true Grandmother... Something so said the driver at the school. Perhaps the Ship has 4 Crew members not only 3?

So see, my speculation base on the fear to the aliens. It is my key point...

What i like about this series is the way they are able to blend fantasy with normal life soo well ^^ one moment you are making poison and the next we see a submarine getting blown to bits. And all in all without the subs i am dam confused as to what is going on...great isnt it ^^ its been a while since ive had a series as unpredictable as this.

The things that i did pick up from this ep though ~

- Hagino looks really orgasmic in her uniform (and im not talking about her school one )

- She seems to be the cause of the "tsunami" or at least she feels that it is her fault.

- A member of her crew died (possibly someone she loved...well you never know...)

- we have a yuri couple but one of them got killed by the enemy right on screen!

- never let mari do the cooking

The sound design and animation still continue to wow me with this show. Add on to it great characters and a really intriguing plot makes it one of the my favorite shows ive seen this season easily.

Oh yes and yuri undertones don't hurt either...

Some comments/corrections to Deathkillz

First of all, those are spaceships, not submarines ^_^;

Then, the submarine wasn't blown to bits, it was performing a hyperjump, as far as I could tell.

The (missing) crewmember of Hagino seems to be dead - yes - but that's not the one Hagino loved, but rather the very same the new character opening the holographic pendant loved. In fact, right before they jumped to Earth, she was sneaking a secret message through to her lover, which freaked her out significantly. Then again the "You look wonderful even with your angry face *blown kiss* See ya!" ending remained in the memory of the girl left behind. So, she wasn't killed on screen, she was rather saying goodbye before going on her mission.

It's not entirely clear whether or not she knows about her lover's demise (I believe she does) or if she was only remeniscing.

And you're right, Hagino needs to wear her uniform more often ^_^

Well, I think this anime succeeds in creating an atmosphere based on a very good plot and realization. I would not be able to describe accurately the 3D effect and 2D effect but Blue drop is an "everything" composed of good musics, plot and graphics.

My ideas for ep3 and following:

We don't know for sure if Grandmother is Grandmother because Mari doen't remember anything but this apocalyptic scene. Furthermore, it was a form of "blue activation" when Hagino touched Mari. She is also able to distinguish clearly the crewmember in invisible mode. Consequently, she was likely to have some relationships in the past during this mess called "tsunami" which was in fact a meeting between hagino's starship and another warship.

I wonder what is this other ship they talk about. It is quite difficult to say if it is a threat or not. Beyond this, we do not know exactly why the starship is waiting for its recovery whereas the meeting with the starship occured 5 years ago.
Who did damage this starship so badly?
I hope it doesn't take 5 years to recover.

...the drive of the ship "Blue" (#5 ship of the alien reconnaissance fleet) malfunctioning and the ship taking five years to be repaired. During that time (or at least two years of it), Hagino went on land and the "Operator" Azrael (the person whom Mari can see) was in charge of repairs.

My suspicion is that a Terran somehow killed the lost crew-member, and then a geass of some kind was put on the crew to go and kill all the rest of the people on the island. Or something like that. Maybe the overall commander is the one who put on the geass, in revenge for the killing of her lover. The tsunami and/or the fires could have been caused by the malfunctioning of the drive, or else intentionally.

I believe this is the scout fleet for an invasion force to follow. Not to be disloyal to Earth, but I hope they show the invasion. There are some wild images in the mangas of a rain of beautiful aliens falling to Earth and exploding themselves to kill unsuspecting policemen, and of big hills shaped like figures from nightmare, pushed up by an alien weapon that converts enemy fears into physical shapes.

A big question for me is why the aliens and the Earth people have such similar biology. One thing I really like is the way crew members can leap and slide easily into their places in the control room. There's one example in the OP and then again in ep3. Hagino's cap is kawaii, but the way it's perched up so high on her head somehow reminds me of Shirley Temple as a child in some old film.

The Ship is the source of the Accident - Confirmed

And Maru can see or sense this Scout like Bird... #1 and #2 we saw the true about the Bird.

Well, looks weired. But anyway... I have a feeling Maru is somehow connected with this Ship.... Don't tell me, the Ship Computer is a "Human" Brain with Body... Like in Sol Bianca, these connection looks the same for me. But there are many unanswered question...

The trigged reaction of Hagino, after touch some Human with the DNA Code of the Island... Some Override Mode in her Brain snap in... Hate (Her pupils turns violet. On "Normal" mode her pupils are black. but on board the Ship. She has Blue pupils...

But then, when Maru was afraid of touching again. She emites some light on the contact side... Or was that an incompatible reaction of the contact? Or did Hagino suppress the urge to kill and it brings great pain to her?...

I bet the "Main Light" of the Computer (We saw some 3 Circle like lights on board the Ship.) Looks like the bigger one is the Computer. Because after Hagino activate the Ship, the Computer confirmed her commands with a Light from it... But now i got to the point... There are 2 littel ones down left and right... Alert light? Hyperjump mode?

Episode 2 was quite nice I cant really blame Mari for still being so distrustful of Hagino. I mean all said and done she still tried to strangle her and if i was in that position i would be looking over my shoulder i dont care how gentle her smile is.

On the other hand Hagino seems to have taken a liking to Mari after she figured who she was. The fact that she convienced the head of the doorms to switch rooms around was a bold move i didnt expect it. I didnt quite understand what the girl in ship meant when she said things have been acting up every since Mari came. It was almost like Mari hold some mysterious power that is influencing things since she is the only survivor, not to mention she could see Haginos officer.

Im liking the series so far even though we still a ways to go before we get the whole story. Im looking forward to seeing Mari and Hagino get closer.
