Watanuki suggests to send a letter to the past to warn their past selves. Everyone is surprised but they agree.

Renshou starts getting nostalgic and says that when he opened the letter he wrote back then (the one in anime episode 12, manga chapter 9) he was surprised about the random contents it had. Nobara asks him if he was the one who most suffered and he replies her that he was able to move on during these 23 years since he had other friends and even got married and had children! But even so, he could not forget them.

Karuta tells Watanuki about their past lives (he still doesn't remember it). She isn't scared of reincarnating again because she read the letter that past-Watanuki wrote and it said that he loves her and no matter how many times they will be reborn, he will always be there to protect her An embarrassed Watanuki denies all that

Ririchiyo is in the hospital recuperating from Kuroe's fight and Soushi is crying besides her, asking her why he protected him; if he did it because he looks like the previous Soushi. Ririchiyo confesses that indeed she doesn't love him, she stills loves the previous Soushi but she treasures him and that maybe if they had more time she would ended up loving him to.

The scenes changes to the past (anime episode 12, manga chapter 9) where Renshou is digging a hole. The chapter ends when the cook's son finds a time capsule (the one sent by their reincarnations from the future).

Inu x Boku SS, end of the Second Chapter "if"

So aaaall these past chapters are like some sort of AU where they fail to stop Inukami. It also means that we're back with the old characters (I can finally ship again Karuta x Watanuki and Nobara x Renshou because in the "future" their age gap was too wide)

This makes me wonder

How will Ririchiyo and Soushi get together now, since the scene when Ririchiyo confessed will probably not happen. I'm confidence they'll get together anyways, but I wonder how...

But yeah, more than anything, I hope that with this warning, they'll be able to prepare themselves for Inukami's arrival and avoid dying.

Still makes me feel sad for the alternate-future reincarnated Soushi. It's bad that his rival is his past self - no way to beat that. But maybe if the past works out, then their reincarnated selves will work out as well, instead of how it is now.

But it's good that the main timeline seems to be the "past". I like the gang how they first debut.

I am so screaming for a season 2 of the anime after all this...

Do you think that the "Chapter 3" will be the last? Cocoa Fujiwara's longest manga has been Dear which lasted 12 volumes... (13 if you count Watashi no Ookami-san given that it was a sort of prequel)

The problem of 2nd season would be the number of chapters to adapt since the first season only was the first 9 and a half chapters.

2nd season 1 cour until chapter 18 (with filler based on omakes) and a 3rd season with 2-cours to animate the whole "Second chapter" (chapters 19-36)?

On a different note, volume 7 was in 4th place on the Oricon list with 161,894 copies in its first week. The official anthology was in 13th place. Source.

I think if they manage to beat Inukami now, history will change, and the alternative future will disappear and get replaced by a future when they never died. So I don't think there's any need to feel sorry for reincarnated Soushi.

go down that way. Beheaded? Argh...it was such a touching last moment - almost made me cry. And, I agree with Bern-san that second!Soushi is very pitiable. In his case, it's never more true to the saying 'one's own worse enemy'.

But thinking back to the first arc, it seems that first!Soushi knew such a thing was coming (along with Natsume) - he wanted to prevent it but in the end he couldn't. Was this because Natsume's power to foresee the future or was it because

Ririchiyo's presentation didn't go good with her bad habit. Chino, who is her classmate, tries to make people see that Ririchiyo is a good person

Things turn out for the worst when Kagerou appears, he has repeated 4 years (he is 19, 3 years younger than Soushi and Natsume) so that's why he is with Ririchiyo and Chino. Priceless how Kagerou told the teacher that he was going to train him too and the teacher was just yeah, whatever, sit down.

Since nobody wants Kagerou's presents, Natsume makes a game where the winner will get them. Chino, Kagerou, Natsume, Soushi and Ririchiyo participate.
Highlights of the game: Soushi's confession regarding Kagerou's virginity (a shame he was interrupted), Chino+Kagerou combo and Ririchiyo winning the game.

This time Kagerou and Ririchiyo did exchange letters, though Ririchiyo wants to stop that because of Soushi. I feel pity for Kagerou, I think he enjoyed doing it even if he seems to not care about it.

Having just watched InuxBoku SS OVA with Kagerou repeatedly pressed to say 'Human Chamberpots'...and then seeing him appear in c21 with that line...lol.

After the last 3 chapters, c21 was really light-hearted, gives some reprieve for all the sadness before but, still, since we know the truth...the light-heartedness was still felt with a slightly heavy heart.

Chapter 22 is in English!

Ririchiyo with her communication problems, even Kagerou and Chino manage to have some friends. Natsume worries about her and convinces her to get taught by Soushi (a weird choice I say).

Soushi awakes his S side with punishment games each time Ririchiyo is mean to other people or to him. He visits her while she's in class transformed in Souko who is popular with boys.

That Ririchiyo has asthma could be a reference to Fujiwara's oneshot Ojousama to Youkai Shitsuji (which can be considered the prototype of Inu x Boku)?

A certain girl makes an appearance towards the end... Maniac!

Man, I hope Ririchiyo stop clinging to the previous lives and starts living in the present, sure, Soushi isn't 100% the same as in the previous life, but neither is she. Both of them are reincarnations that are very similar to how they were in their previous life, even though not exactly the same, because their lives have played out slightly differently.
I think it would be funny if Ririchiyo would start getting over the past and seeing Soushi as being, well, Soushi as she's Ririchiyo, but at that point he gets his memories back to and becomes distant.

This month's issue released the Watanuki interlude and the next issue will start the third and final arc.

Great news, I find a shame that the translations are so behind the Japanese releases but since there aren't a lot of volumes Yen Press can catch up a bit.
A month ago more or less chapter 24 was translated:

We see Watanuki is a middle school boy who has a delinquent group with some primary school kids as his followers
The chapter focuses on his relationship with Karuta, who is his SS.
I wanted to hug her when she looked so sad saying that Watanuki hates her and also when she started to cry after Watanuki told her that they're friends.

The current chapters in Japan are getting interesting too

Like expected, history is changing and Karuta's attack doesn't happen. It's so refreshing to see the original characters again after that second arc.
