I also do think the line is not very thin between the two.

Un'yo's version makes it seem Nayotake made a living from prostitution, no ifs and buts. It's possible though that Un'yo indeed just told the general Shinomiya POV about her.

The doctor's version makes it seem Nayotake was valuable enough to a point where even just hanging out with her, making her serve drinks to you cost a fortune. Of course she could still have sex with her visitors, but now it's not her main or only possibility for income.

As I said, it is very likely that Nayotake will be considered a prostitute by Shinomiya family (even if she is only a hostess who does a little side-jobs). They are not going to consider the details of her job, only the fact that Nayotake slept with one of her clients.

Also, Un'yo has misunderstood things in the past (like Gan'an feelings toward Kaguya).

True, there's a big difference, but people don't often see it that way. From an outsider's point of view, especially an outsider who's offended by something like their relationship with a relative, a hostess who takes money for sex is a prostitute, plain and simple.

Yeah, that's how I took it.

Prostitution was legal for Japan for a long time and so a certain amount of culture developed around that. The higher class ones were brought up / trained to serve rich and noble clients and the best of the best were very very exclusive. The very highest class of oiran didn't have sex at all and are still active today:

I get what Miyuki wanted here is like the only solution he could have gone for given his position, but I can't help but feel it would have been so shitty even if he were guaranteed to succeed. Coward move.

He heard what happened between Miyuki and the Shinomiya, and concluded magnificently that the second brother was a fucking idiot for giving Miyuki war funds. Nice, at least I can compliment this. He assumed Miyuki broke up with Kaguya and accepted the compensation by the way at first.

Gan'an says he won't rewrite the will to favor Kaguya, and his dementia is also a factor that can be used against a rewritten will. So Miyuki just straight up asks Gan'an to give him Kaguya for marriage and already prepared the documents for it. Pussy move, Miyuki, pussy move, Gan'an also kind of freaked out there. Of course, Kaguya knows nothing about this, but he wants to marry her and surprise her when they reunite.

Un'yo comes to the room, when they start conversing about how this can disrupt the Shijo marriage in advance. But Kaguya still wouldn't be free from the Shinomiya. Gan'an said it's not like he is keeping her there as a captive. But he still thinks Oko's judgement is not wrong and he would have done the same in his place.

Furthermore, Kaguya decided to stay on her own, but Miyuki says she only did because of Gan'an, wanting to fulfill her role as her daughter and maintaining their parent-child connection. Then Gan'an gives in and says a password. 01300101. It's the code for the vault in their main house that contains his will. He directly won't do anything, but if his will is missing, they have to negotiate out a solution regarding his inheritance.

0130 is the day Nayotake passed away.
0101 is Kaguya's birthday.

It's unspecified. The inheritance would be split halfway between the spouse (which are all dead so this doesn't apply), and the other half to the children, but it doesn't specify how much each children would get.

That has to be formalized in an agreement or through a formal court order.

Not too bad in my opinion. I'm glad Aka directly addressed the glaring problem with the plan of getting Gan'an to rewrite the will. Even if he didn't have dementia yet, you can be sure the lawyers would fight tooth and nail to convince the judges that he did, and thus have the will thrown out. The plan honestly never would've worked, so I'm glad it was shot down.

And even if this does go "damsel in distress", at least it's a rather different kind. The girl isn't confined by brick and metal, she's confined by circumstances, responsibilities, obligations and dependencies. The task isn't to break her out, but to find a key to make it okay for her to leave.

Interesting touch too, having that as the password.

One thing I wonder after reading the chapter, are copies ever made of wills, digital or hard, in case something happens to the original? I'm fine with this not being the case in a story, but I'm still curious whether it's actually feasible.

On a different note, I really hate all this "familial piety" crap. Loyalty to one's family is certainly important, and a child who chooses to take up the family business and support the business's associates and employees should take responsibility. If you choose to be part of something, then you should take responsibility for it. But it's seriously messed up to treat it as an obvious given that someone should have to follow a path just because of where they were born. Not to mention the problem of nepotism, but I won't get into that here.

Who? It's been made clear that the family would employ some if Miyuki tried to get a new will made or marry Kaguya. And given the political and legal power of Chika's and Miko's families, I imagine they could get some too, though they haven't done so yet.

Also, I'm just a little bit surprised Miyuki didn't mention that Kaguya personally requested that he be given that payout. I mean, this's why he believes that she hasn't truly given up, and being able to tell her father that, given their past together, the payout looks far more like a call to battle than a final farewell might have at least been a valid response to his claims that Kaguya "chose" to accept her responsibility.

Hmm. Part of me feels that while Miyuki never expected to get Gan'an's blessing to marry Kaguya he still actually wanted to say that formally. It a weird way he was both being sincere and playing it straight... while also being sneaky in that he probably expected to get something from it indirectly.

It's interesting that Gan'an never actually shot him down. He could have said that Miyuki was unworthy of Kagura or something but never did.

Hayasaka and Fujiwara goes to Kyoto, to the Shinomiya houselhold.

So let's switch to Miyuki, Ishigami, and Iino. They shelter themselves in the Student Council room and going to spend the night there. They need to eat, and it's yakisoba cup noodle time. The boys have to accept that Iino's way of preparing them is the correct way and both learned something new.

Last page is Hayasaka with a knife or dagger in hand, taking a protective stance while Fujiwara is behind her, and at least three guys are approaching them. Bet it's not going to be something serious and it will transition into another Fujiwara ramen chapter.

To begin with, 'in case of missing' shouldn't even exist for one of big player in Japan business like Shinomiya clan.
VIP like Ganan should already take advice from the lawyer to made will in every form (example: recorded voice, private video, written paper with fingerprint and sign) that they will kept secret until the time come (so Ganan told "Yo, get it from my home" is an issue on its own). Such case of missing only come to mind if somehow there's something like ... kaiju wrecked Japan, causing mass destruction.

In case there's no time to made will, like sudden death due to heart attack before one gave thought of it, it is indeed will be split depends on agreement between children (and wife if they're still present). Especially if the inheritance is not liquid such as: house, factory or equipment, or simply come with pile of debts.

Beyoung Yakisoba is parody of Peyoung Yakisoba.
Its an already popular brand (type of food probably more correct) that some Japanese brag it as "the best food to eat before death".
