After watching the ep, I feel rather dissapointed. A *lot* of good scenes were cut - and some of those were important too.

On the other hand, I liked the way they handled the scene when Haruhi's father arrived - they turned the narration in the manga into audio nicely and smartly.

Spoiler for some of the bits missed from the anime version:

Well, with turning 2 chapters into one, they had to leave a lot out, but they could done it better. For example, turn the bonus manga from the tankubon into DVD extras instead (maybe they will anyway?) or take a leaf out of KyoAni's book and skip the OP to leave more time for the real story.

Oh well. It's still one of the best manga to anime conversions out there right now...

i haven't seen ep 10 yet but i saw ep 9 and watch the preview for the next episode. boy-oh-boy, it seems so good. no, i know it will be good. i can't wait.

I have mixed feelings about this ep especially seeing last ep. But ofcourse, Tamaki still acts like Tamaki.

Very nice one! I love this kind of episodes where there's a bit of "serious development" inside

Tamaki really just act like Haruhi's father rotfl

Maybe that's why Haruhi can bear him when he goes crazy or he does something stupid deheheh..

Just wondering.. maybe Haruhi wont end up with Tamaki because he's so much like her father?

(not the bi-side rotfl xD) Or maybe she can love him anyway..

Wow, what a episode.

Being able to see Haruhi in that dress & in flashbacks as a younger girl was soo amazingly cute - & the scene of Haruhi remembering Her Mother brought the biggiest smile ever to my face. ^^;

Ranka was.. fun. Of course he completely suits Ouran so well, mainly him being a lot like Tamaki.. can't leave out the Okama part. ^^;;

A lot more crazy Tamaki scenes to add to the list - & Renka's last words about them was pretty sweet. ^^

The first half was well done, but the second one doesn't compare very well with its manga counterpart. I miss the part where Tamaki and Haruhi played son and mother. And the image of Tamaki saying "I know" just wasn't as cool.

The meaning of "(Waht you say) can be sympathize" is nearer than word "I know" said in the market. Though the question that Tamaki wants to play the relation between father and daughter remains.

Apparently Tamaki was growing fungi on himself, brooding in the storage closet... o_o

This episode made me laugh so much... especially the opener. Once again Tamaki and Co. with their mannerisms... never cease to get me smiling. Great timing, for I was pretty depressed the day before. XD

I thought this was a good episode. Hilarious as usual, but it also expanded on some of Haruhi's background, which gets big thumbs up from me. I've still got a few question marks about what approach this series is going to take towards a romance between the obvious couple, but I'm starting to think it won't be so bad if nothing happens... provided the series can keep delivering good comedy.

Not knowing or reading of the manga, I think it expounded quite an amount of time developing Tamaki in Ranka's eyes. It seems like wishful thinking, but I really do hope for the two to end up together, Haruhi and Tamaki, that is. As usual, the BGM before Shissou perfectly conveyed a positively plaintive sound - a sad sound that wouldn't last for long.

So far, I haven't regretted picking this as my no.1 currently running anime.

Omniscient Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2004	Episode 10 Screencaps and Summary Spoiler: Boy they stuffed a LOT into this episode (chapters 13, 14, and vol 3 omake), and likewise cut out some stuff from the manga. Like hi no ken said, it was tons of laughs, but I wouldn't quite say it was the funniest episode (a bit of a more serious tone for the latter third of the episode).

On the other hand, I liked the way they handled the scene when Haruhi's father arrived - they turned the narration in the manga into audio nicely and smartly. Spoiler for some of the bits missed from the anime version: One of the better bits of chapter 13 which they kept in was the bit about how Kyouya knows Haruhi's father (talked to him on the phone - today was first time to meet in person). The anime kept most of the scene, but left out the last bit, explaining that this was how got photos of Haruhi from middle-school for example, as you can see here from the manga scan: http://i6.tinypic.com/120if86.jpg A bigger bit they missed out is Haruhi's father sighing over how his daughter is so cute and got even better in middle school - but despite that, Haruhi has never cared about external apperances. And then Haruhi suddenly cuts her hair before entering high school: http://i5.tinypic.com/120ifyu.jpg They also cut the bonus manga chapter from vol 3 by like 50%! Darn it. And they cut out the beginning, which was my favourite bit: basically, Haruhi never told her father about parents' day at school, and he only found out from someone else, and brings up the paper with the information and says "What's this" and Haruhi says "Paper" As the manga comments, even at age 8, Haruhi was pretty deadpan (btw, for those not aware yet, the reason why Haruhi didn't tell her father about parents' day was because it was on Sunday - her father works almost all the time and Sunday is the only chance for him to relax.) Another bit they cut out was the flashback to Haruhi shopping for food as a child - they showed it very briefly, but in the manga, some boys from Haruhi's class turn up and say how it's pitiful that with Haruhi's mother being dead that Haruhi's father has become the mother (ie dresses in woman's clothes). Haruhi's father sees this and gets angry, but Haruhi just calmly replies that it not pitiful at all - her father dresses that way because it's his preference Well, with turning 2 chapters into one, they had to leave a lot out, but they could done it better.
