Carrying on with the waffy take of things...

Spoiler for Scene 2:

Scene 2
Changi Naval Base

Karon got emerged from the elevator and into the humid warmth. As a posted guard watched on bemused, the little girl skipped along a parapet and hopped up a bush, landing lightly on polished olive-painted metal. She gave a salute to the nice trooper, and the land rover she just hitched on moved off.

The speed limits of the base kept the ride stable for the small girl to sit crossed-legged and enjoy the wind trailing through her hair. She didn't know where this machine was headed, but given that she saw some men in ceremonial uniforms with big 'crabs' on their shoulders (indicating Colonel ranks) inside, it was most probably bound for the carnival. Even if it didn't reach her destination, Karon knew her way around. Changi Naval was home territory, thanks to her parents she lived as much in the base as she did out of it.

The soldiers in the place were familiar with her too, and her habit of riding land rovers by roof. A couple of corporals saluted as she passed; Gou returned the greeting with cheek.

The vehicle made a bend, and carried on by the long berth vacated especially for the returning fleet. That made for a splendid view where the blue sky swathed with cotton fluff met with the green sea. In the completely-urban island, a flat horizon was a rare sight. Karon loved it. For the child, she always wondered just what was beyond the edge of her small world, and was always whining to her brother to take her flying, if only just to peer beyond that rim. The man would laugh, and tell her that beyond that horizon, was another one, even further away.

“Then, we go higher!”

“Then, the horizon just gets further.”

“Ah mou! When can we see beyond the edge of the world?”

And Kajie would smile, “From space, of course.”

Space. The Final Frontier. Even before Tabane showed the world her invention, even before the White Knight changed the world overnight, Karon had dreamed to reach beyond the clouds and soar amongst the stars. The Foundation had a fledgling space program, but no manned missions had been planned any time soon. With the IS, that dream was just right at her finger-tips...

As if on cue, the girl heard chants of a training run. But unlike the usual grunts, this was higher-pitched. Her gaze fell upon a gaggle of girls some years older than herself, jogging in time by the seaside. They were clad in swimsuit-like garments and sneakers, and little else, as was the eldest lady leading them.

Karon instantly brightened up. They were IS pilots! As the land rover cruised past, the girl waved happily to the group. They weren’t from the base, so their response was of surprise and cheer before it was silenced by a sharp command from their instructor.

Karon turned to face the front again, and bobbed excitedly. She couldn't wait to grow up and join the Infinite Stratos Academy. She turned her hand into the shape of an airplane and headed it into the wind. Karon smiled as she watched the clouds move in the backdrop. Very soon...

The Foundation had a fledging space program, but no manned missions. The group have been shooting satellites into space... and that's it. No lunar bases, not even orbital elevators. They do have launch pads and mass launchers however.

Karon wants to be the first Foundation pilot in to space, if her brother doesn't get there first.

Her life is the most unique because she's actually one of the more crazy ones.

Irish and Ichika are very level headed compared to her dragging her friends into constant messes, despite the fact that they should be more traumatized than she is.

Karon wants to be the first manned pilot at 9!? That's a big dream for a kid who looks and acts like she's six.

Side note - Is Silver temporarily turning Irish into a girl because he attacked her too OOC? She'll cure his gynophobia at least if it happens which is a good thing.

I dreamed to be an astronaut when I was younger. Star Trek and Star Com were my inspirations.
