Tales of The World: Radiant Mythology Game Discussion

This is my 3rd PSP game ever purchased ^^ (not a real psp fan).
The game itself uses the battle system similar to tales of the abyss,
you use the (extrem small) stick to run freely (on the X and Z plane)
and the digi-pad to move on a level (Y and X axis).
It doesn't have random battles like some tales games,
so in desperate times you can sneak your way out.

Not sure but i think it has at least 1 character from each tales game,
all with voice acting, which is nice.

Graphically: is as good as the any average PS2 game,
however since it is uses a more comic/anime art style,
it does really matter.
Only dungeons and city hotspot are in 3D anything else is keep in 2D.
The world map is similar to the city,
it lets you select hotspots rather than running around like real tales game.

Sound: nice melodic soundtrack plus it has voices,
but your DIY character has only voice during the battles.
(you might want to put your headphones on,
since the psp umd drive can drive one nuts).

Bonus: You can upload your characters onto to-mythology
Currently you can get a a christmas dressing for you character ^^
and since the 52th week a maid dress and 2 funny head gears.
Other options is trading characters, people can download your character
that you upload on the tow site.

My verdict:
I like this game and for £25 it is definitly worth it.
Only problem i have is that is on the PSP and not on the PS2.
RPG on portable systems is really hard to do,
since one have to find the right balance or you end up
with something that is probably better off on a homesystem.
With TOW-Mythology i really think it is the case,
it would be better on a homeconsole than one a portable one.
Additionally the loading time from the UMD drive is slow (think of ps2 game),
if you have the chance dump it on your memorystick, it is worth it,
especially since it reduces the energy consumption
(longer battery life), shortens loading time and you won't
get annoyed by the noise of the drive anymore.

(BTW for £26-50 you can get a PSP to TV adapter which is definitly worth getting,
considering that most PSP games coming out are epic games)

Which of the latest handheld versions of Tales are supposed to be translated? I can read Japanese games fine but I'd rather not buy a game that's already coming over. I've gotten in the habit of importing handheld games and I've got the full voice edition of Tales of Phantasia already...

Is Radiant Mythology coming out in English? What about Tempest for DS, or Destiny 2 on PSP?

None of them has been announced for overseas release so far.
However tales of the tempest is probably the one most likely to
get a release outside japan, since it is on a nintendo machine.

As for Radiant Mythology, non of the other TOW games made it
outside japan, so i reckon it is highly unlikey that this one will make it.

Thanks for the quick answer. I went ahead and splurged myself for the holidays: ordered Mythology and Tempest, and pre-ordered Destiny 2 on PSP... I can't wait!

After playing this one for a little while, I have to say it's much better than I would have thought! Especially when compared side by side to Tales of the Tempest, which is probably the single worst major Tales game and really just a tarnish on the series. But Radiant Mythology is gorgeous, very nice and smooth graphics, the gameplay is pretty streamlined and enjoyable... Fun game all around!

Tempest was ok for a portable game (fast, simple battles and short play time).
I notived that most people had expected it to be something
like a full blown up tales title, for home consoles and got disappointed.

I wouldn't have minded so much if Tempest was one of the earlier titles on Gameboy when programmers were still working out the kinks, but so much of the gameplay seems counterintuitive and just not very well thought out. It seems to lack polish to me, not about the graphics, which I feel are pretty good for a 3D DS game made from scratch, but the entire system in general. Too many battles + too large environments + slow moving speed = way too much fighting and getting lost. The combo system for ougis doesn't work very well for me, so I waste a lot of TP trying to do them. The menu system seems to work backwards and it isn't very elegant. Story is a dumbed-down version of the same concepts they have been using forever... etc. etc.
