Until Kirei forces a command spell and Waver has to take a horrible choice to deal with it.

Probably that and space (where would it fit to make it flow smoothly?).
More despairrrrrrrrr. This was a subplot to make Waver mature more earlier on the storyline. He always got the godawful choices about children (Loli Assassin, the Caster's lair). It's still a popular idea among the fanbase, here: Spoiler for two fanarts inspired by the ditched subplot... warning for PANTLESS ISKANDAR and loli cleavage:

Looking back, I think I got carried away in my earlier post. I can at least see where some viewers are coming from. This show has occasional problems when it comes to integrating long dialogue with the action sequences to the point that it becomes visually uninteresting. Though, if that's the problem, episodes 12 and 11 did it much worse. Of course, as a person who watches Fate/Zero for the characters and their characterization over the plot, any scene that explores the characters' personalities and goals further is just as satisfying as a gloriously animated fight sequence. Anyhow, rating the fist half as it is seems kinda pointless since we can't really judge the plot without all the cards on the table. The most we can go on are the other details like execution, characters, animation, music, etc. Either way, a proper rating from just that is insufficient.

I liked how they focused on dialogues in the series. However, at the same time, because I am reading subs, I always look at the scene after reading and I am a bit disappointed on how some of them are animated. The bad art becomes very noticeable as the anime progress, and I think they could have done better. I wonder if I'll feel the same thing if this is dubbed to English.

I would say Fate/Zero is a bit more of an ensemble cast, meaning that no particular person really is the "main" character. However, Saber, Kiritsugu, and Kotomine will most likely be who the story delivers the most attention to in the end.
