Lots and lots of flashbacks at first.
These were pretty enjoyable too. A short summary of Gon's greatest hits! So he's off to a new adventure. Finally, he met his dad. Ging opened up a bit too... finally more info about him. He truly is an adventurist through and through. Family is family, but heart wants what is wants... in this case adventure. Still, some quality time with dad was nice. Awesome final episode. Well rounded up! Gonna miss this anime..

With people coming back as Chimera Ants, questions arise, such as:
Are they humans reincarnated as Chimera ants, or Chimera Ants with memories of people who've been consumed by the queen? Will we see other Chimera Ant victims like Pokkle or Ponzu come back as Chimera Ants? What's going to become of those cocooned humans that the Hunter Association spirited away from East Gorteau? |

Those were some three years. This was great ending point. It feels like an actual ending despite the story going on.
This last arc, the half about th elections was one of my favorite parts. This arc made me realise that as much as I like Gon and Killua, I liked HxH the most when other characters take the spotlight. Pariston and Hisoka for best characters. I feel unexpectedly apathetic now that it's over, but it's probably because the last episodes where essentially an epilogue. Two things about this episode: Ging sounds like and ancient astronaut theorist. And parasyte plug. |

You know, there's this long standing issue I've had with HunterxHunter in that I always felt like it lacked an overall story. It started off straightforwardly enough as Gon looking for his father, but as the series went on that aspect took on an incredibly minor role in favour of some random adventures that sometimes flowed and sometimes didn't (e.g. random monster invasion). It all seemed like it was lacking a fundamental structure in its storyline and I could never quite understand what the story was really all about. I was tempted to come to the conclusion that "random adventures" was really what it was but that seemed weird to me and lacking in real meaning.
But now this episode has alleviated that problem for me. Gings advice about enjoying the journey more than the end result made me realise that there really is meaning behind just having "random adventures" that I never appreciated until now. If you think about it, this really is the best ending possible that has accurately summed up what HunterxHunter is all about in a satisfying way. My only (minor) complaints were that it kinda played up the "hunting Ging" plotline despite the fact that Gon never actually achieved that and the questionableness (is that word?) of hiding Gotou's death in such a manner (I suppose Togashi probably wanted to avoid the effect it would have on Killua and how it undermined his achievements). As for Ging being a lousy father...well yeah he kinda is; there's no getting round that. But Gon never actually calls Ging "dad" or anything like that so I don't think Gon really sees him as a father anyway and I think Ging accepts the fact that he has no right to that role. They've seemed to have fallen into a student-mentor role and both appear to accept that relationship, so as long as they're both happy I guess there's nothing to complain about. Individual arc scores: Spoiler for scores:
Overall score: 8.7/10

Here's a question proposed in another forum: what was your favorite arc in the anime?
Ignoring the Chimera Ants arc which I'm pretty sure will dominate the answers, my favorite arc believe it or not is Greed Island. As an adventure as a whole, I had more fun with it more than any other arc in the series and I liked how the anime adapted it and made me get and realize stuff I didn't before and I liked Genthru here more so than in the manga in which he didn't impress me that much. |

Awesome finale, wouldn't want it any other way. Oh and btw I have an example of Transmuters affecting foreign objects not related to their own Nen. Remember when Hisoka was first introduced and some guy bumped into him? He turned both his arms into pixie dust. |

Mine is Yorkshin. Kurapika worked great as protagonist, it had intrigue, and the Genei Ryodan were one of my favorite antagonists, right up the with Meruem and the royal guard. And it has Hisoka.
The rest of the arcs I'd rate (best to worst): election-chimera ant-Greed Island-Heavens Arena-Hunter test Mentioning Hisoka, it's kind of a shame that so far we still haven't had a chance to see him fighting someone on his level. |

This.
I personally found that the Chimera Ant arc overstayed its welcome and brought far too many unexplained plot devices to the table. I think that from the moment that the King enters the equation the entire arc begins to suffer. He was just far too powerful of an enemy and that brought certain undesirable qualities to the narrative in my opinion. But, while Greed Island is my favourite arc, I'll have to add that my favourite scene is the Gon x Hisoka fight during the Heavens Arena arc. That fight was brilliant in oh so many ways.
