Episode 2
Usually when an episode ends with a girl naked the next episode starts with everything more or less back to normal or the girl at least clothed. I did not expect them to show Matoi go all the way back home naked which reminded of this one hentai manga/doujin I read... Anyway, the thing Matoi got was a god who turns into her clothing and powers when she transforms into a mahou shoujo. And Yuma wanted those powers and since she didn't get them she wants Matoi today do the stuff she would have done – exorcism. And she has Matoi transform in school and everyone takes pictures and makes videos. And she probably ends up trending on twitter. And at the bank, even though she wanted the pros to handle the situation, she goes in because she sees the darkness of the Nights or whatever and thinks that it may be dangerous for Shingo-kun. But she doesn't do anything because she doesn't know how to do anything. And the kinpatsu mahou shoujo comes to defeat the enemy and spouts some nonsense about Nights and gods and leaves Matoi even more confused. And Matoi ends up having to run home topless because her god had to come out to protect her from the blondie's shot. And Matoi's mom may not be dead. She could probably be a mahou shoujo like Matoi now is and is on some mission or something. Shingo did mistake Matoi for her mother when she transformed and started to look similar to her mother. But then again, the jewel which led to the transformation was with Shingo or Matoi and not with the mother unless there are two of that jewel. The OP was okayish and there sure was a lot of nudity in that opening sequence. This episode felt like it had better comedy compared to the first one. But I don't quite like how they try to push in some comedy with Yuma during those serious moments. It's like they're being full serious and then throw in Yuma trying to figure out what she should do. It doesn't fit at all. The throwing in comedy in between the serious moments is feeling a bit off here. It was off in the previous episode and it's still off here. The story is feeling a bit boring. They're starting to explain things a bit but whatever's happening isn't interesting me here. I think I should drop this soon. One more episode is all I'm going to give this. |

I really want to know why she keeps calling her father Shingo-kun. It's making me lose my mind!!!
That said, I love it how the god dissolves her clothes and leaves her naked once the deed is done. Running around half-nude through town, poor girl. xD

And to think students are allowed to have their smartphones during P.E. class in their pockets and then conveniently taking shots of Matoi.
There was no such thing as smartphone when i was their age. Little does Matoi know the fact that she is already being profiled by some investigators outside of Japan. I have a feeling that Shingo will see that woman with the glasses as an eyesore whenever he has to see her. Contrast to that assistant who wants to be called "Pochi" by that woman. |

Not fond of the blonde magical girl so far. She's very confrontational, and everything she says is cryptic and serious. I know we'll get to see more sides of her later on but I hope it's sooner rather than later, right now she just feels really out of place next to Matoi and Yuma who feel more like actual teenage girls. It's like I'm watching two different shows side by side, one is a cold-blooded chuuni action story while another is a cute and funny magical girl show.

Anyway, Matoi and Yuma are very funny together, and this show is pretty creative, particularly in the comedy department.

While not particularly outstanding, this show has its charm, and a lot of it is coming from Yuma and Matoi, specifically the former messing with the latter by playing "manager" to her. It feels like a classic comedy playing in the middle of a fantasy action series, and judging from the preview, that won't be changing much next week, as neither will Matoi's luck with her wardrobe Speaking of that's where the other part of the charm is coming from: the raunchy humour. While not really my thing, its nice that the ecchi is there as much for laughs as it is for service, if not more, and it works well with Yuma's attitude towards the whole thing: more skin equals more followers, after all
Oh, and was it really necessary to spoil right away that Spoiler for Spoiler:
Like I said before, not really a great show, but a good way to spend a few minutes of the day if you're not in the mood for kirara time SoLs. |

Enjoyed episode 2.
I like the brand of humor they're trying to in this show. Yuma in some other series can be annoying, but I think she provides a good contrast to the heroine. Laughed when she got shot and fell and just goes "that hurt!" The magical knight girl is annoying, I dislike her type usually. Looks like Yuma will probably get powers too, and its going to go with the troupe of red/yellow/blue sentai trio, though the blonde one transforms into blue attire...

At the moment, I'm not sure I like Matoi much. Or at least yet. She seems kinda childish for a girl, seems like the type that just wants a normal life.
In the meantime, that new blonde girl got me curious. She's definitely not messing around with that gun.... The OP song is okay, nothing extraordinary though imo.

But since Nanoha and Madoka, most magical girl leads I've seen are like Nanoha and/or Madoka. In other words, they quickly embrace the idea of trying to help other people, and they're almost fearless badasses and/or they want to be special. A throwback like Matoi is refreshing for a change. Plus, I like the current ironic dynamic between Matoi and Yuma. Matoi gets to be what Yuma would love to be, but Matoi herself doesn't want it.

If Matoi is a darker show in the sense that Madoka or Yuki Yuuna was dark, it might be that part of the aim of Soushin Matoi is to examine what happens when a Matoi-like magical girl who is extremely reluctant to jump to the call is put inside a magical girl system with many downsides. At least, I foresee that Matoi will be flailing around for half the season, and once Yuma get's her regalia, Matoi will acquire an initial motivation revolving trying to ensure that Yuma's enthusiasm, heroic instincts and tendency to goof off during battle does not get her killed.
Mind you, we do get a case of reluctant Magical Girls who take half a season to acknowledge and embrace their status, with Illya during Prisma Illya. |

Dang, Regalia is popular these days. Probably the third anime with Regalia this season? or was one of them from the last season... I just hope it doesn't stop broadcasting by the 5th episode.
Anyways, I'm quite glad it doesn't seem to be a clearly-influenced-by-the-popular-anime magic girl route, even though it looks like there will be no incest drama. I thought the OP spoiled the fact the friend is going to transform too, but now that I look, the official website already had it. Wonder if the protagonist will end up naked every time... Quote:

Here's a better, or at least equally valid question: Is Yuma going to end up naked every time? |

After 2 episodes, I like it. It has moments of seriousness but it knows not to go overboard with it's seriousness. Poor Matoi though having to go commando after the transformation ends. If I didn't know better, the god that's attached to Matoi seems to enjoy playing around with Matoi.

Another note lol at her father recognizing which she is not her mother since "looks like her mother" is on "another size"(bigger boobs). The fact which the girl keep calling her father by his name is really annoying, i'm myself not was created by my father but rater than my grandfather (which was like my fahter), but later when my grandfather passed, my father appeared and while i'm anger around him and try to also call him by his name(for anger than just being used) but i know which he is my father and sometimes i call him father it's not like her which make looks like they not really even close rater than even related. This serie gonna be a really fun ride.

It seemed to me that Yuma can activate Matoi's transformation sequence.
Matoi didn't even thought of that, but transformed without her own will. Yuma I say, might become the Kyuubei/Fav position if she knew enough about it and take advantage over Matoi. |

The little odd bit I liked was when Matoi ran out into the gym after transforming, and everyone yelled, "Hey, it's a magical girl!" As if they were outside, looked up and said, "Hey, it's the Goodyear Blimp!" Something unusual to see, but not outside the realm of possibility. For some reason, that cracked me up.
