I think the bigger bullet is the russian roulette we're gonna play: which of J.C. Staff's 4 anime this coming cour would be the subject of poor animation. This cour (Spring 2018) the loser was Shokugeki no Soma with it's wonderful powerpoint presentation of dishes, so hopefully it won't be Hi Score Girl next season since they're already resorting to 3D. XD

honestly, a lot of people did not even realize it was CG when the trailer went out.
new visual The show will premiere on Tokyo MX and BS11 on July 13 at 24:30 (effectively on July 14 at 12:30 a.m.), before airing later that evening on MBS. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...emiere/.132328 |

Indeed. Playing with some powerful irony there.
Not sure I'll get into this one. The CG shows can be really hit or miss on whether they look good or I just can't stand looking at them. The teaser's haven't been bad, but will have to see how the first few episodes play out.

I disagree with that, personally. If it were just a matter of economics that would have happened already, as it did in the States. But this is the land of wabi-sabi - and anime is a peculiar medium, both in terms of the buying public and the creative class. 3D will no doubt continue to increase its share, but I think drawn animation will continue to be a prestige product in anime indefinitely.

Houseki no Kuni and Sidonia no Kishi are made in CG and are highly praised by anime fans, they are even a commercial success. And even Ajin and Bubuki Buranki are also well received, not to mention Blame and Godzilla, of course there are some bad works (Berserk, Souten no Ken), but if we are talking about only works entirely made in CG without mixing with 2D, the good ones outweigh the bad ones. But it is true that there is a prejudice among anime fans, many fans are conservative. Bubuki Buranki has an incredible CG, I do not understand why the series is not popular. |
