Yup, regrettably, it's a limitation of the current forum software that it works this way. I do think it is partly to prevent giant "walls of quotes." Some newer forum software have other ways of handling this (e.g. by collapsing nested quotes), but unfortunately it's not a feature of this current software. If you wish you can re-add the nested quotes manually using multi-quote... but it's a bit of a pain to do.

I'm happy that's the case to be honest. I find long thread tails in replies unnecessary and annoying, in particular ones the repeat embedded images or videos. If you want to respond to a number of posts just use the "multi-quote" button. If people want to look for context, they have the whole thread in front of them.
