I don't really mind the bad guys being so...well, evil to the very core. Ouma Haruka being part of Sepirah Genomics provides all the moral ambiguity GHQ needs.

true so far with his mom in part of it. We are not sure if she's evil or good and by the theme of what they are doing lately. Which is completely discerning what's bad or good. Then she's a mystery.

Lol. Dudley Do-right. Have fun with your inventive criticisms, guys. But just keep watching.... I'll keep trying to ignore the faults and enjoy the show. I have found before that the only mecha/fighting anime I enjoy are those that real mecha/fighting fans find sorely lacking in some way or other.

However, considering that this writer's previous most famous shows -- Code Geass (associate writer), Mai-HiME and Mai-Otome -- all seemed messy and boring to me, my enjoyment may not last. And I liked Vampire Bund, as I like this show, more for the direction and acting than for the writing.

However, I should say that I did like Macross Frontier, up to a point, and loved Denpateki na Kanojo.

I actually invented a term to describe just that kind of show. I won't share the official version, but I can share the sanitized version. Strange mecha show for non-mecha fans. You might find the likes of Simoun or even Sokou No Strain in such a category....possibly even Evangelion, but in any case I still see myself enjoying Guilty Crown in the end barring some completely unforeseen disaster of a script by Yoshino that outdoes everything he's ever done.

Personally though I'm starting to think if he just does the opposite of whatever his first impulse is we end up with one of the greatest mecha shows of all time though.

All the fun aside, the main problems with Guilty Crown have been the direction and the characters. The show wants to both be completely serious at times and absurd at others, but the two parts are integrated/separated poorly. As a result, it's hard to take the serious moments seriously and the absurd moments never feel right. It's a bit of a shame because the show had potential, but most of that has been squandered.

Guilty Crown would probably work a lot better if it just decided to be absurd all the time like say Phi Brain. The problem is that the lead characters (or the whole cast really) are about as interesting as cardboard. I can't really believe that I'm saying this, but Guilty Crown can really benefit from a silly fanservice episode.

Admittedly, I still find the show entertaining, but it's sort of for the wrong reasons.
