This helps solving the chain of secret rooms later.

One interesting fact about the secret rooms is:
Kinzo and Kanon were the only ones who could not lock themselves (battler's theory of accidental death supposed the last locked person locking himself).

- Kanon had a master key with him but, from ep2, it can't open the sanctuary.
- Kinzo didn't have masterkey

Since Beato was about to deny the accident theory, the death by natural causes remains as the only option I can think.

And through the probatio diabolica there's another interesting point: beato denied to repeat they were all murdered, but, it doesn't mean she couldn't repeat it.
She couldn just be misleading battler. Considering it, things get pretty ugly for the readers, hehehe, so I'll not take it into consideration.

Considering this hypothesis:
(1)The windows are manually locked/unlocked from inside without the need of keys.

How to build the chain of secret rooms (very crazy theory):

The criminal X kills the 5 servants and just knock Kinzo unconscious (on purpose).
Then, he locks Gohda, Genji, Shannon and Kumasawa with their respective, keys, masterkeys, letter and fatal wounds.

Now X has sanctuary-key, Kanon's masterkey and Shannon's secret room key on hands.

- Locks Kinzo unconscious in the boiler room without any key.
- Locks Kanon's corpse with his fatal wound, letter, key to Shannon's room and masterkey, using the key of the sanctuary.
- Using hypothesis (1) he puts the letter and the key of the sanctuary inside the boiler room (probably, leaving the window opened before locking Kinzo, if not by Kinzo himself opening it to receive).
- However, we do not know how the window of the boiler room is. Using probation diabolica, I'll assume it is small and doesn't allow a scape, even breaking the glass or anything it is made of.
- Kinzo wakes up, and locks the window manually. Somehow, he has to die by natural causes (and with instant death) and his corpse must end up burned inside the furnace. It's not impossible since he has poor health. And the burning after death could have been set up by himself (he's nuts anyway).

Maybe he went to check if an escape through the chimney was possible and had a heart attack inside the furnace.

Nanjo's murder was the easiest of all and Rias already solved it.
Eva-b said 15 people were dead long after the murder, without saying since when they were dead. If she had said that before or during, things would be different.

If you think better, Eva-b also said this in red:

Wait a minute, I think in this game, witches are not considered as '人間'. If she said 'A PERSON with the feet on the ground raised a weapon and,with it, killed him', she is already denying the witch....
Leaving that aside...

Nanjo's murdered is not Eva, Battler and Jessica, it was not suicide or trap.
It can't be Rosa, Maria, the 5 servants and Kinzo because their death are confirmed by read text.
Ronowe quit being beato' representant before confirming Kyrie, Hideyoshi and Rudolf's deaths. Krauss, Natsuhi and George's death were not confirmed until Eva-b said that in the end.

Hideyoshi is the most suspicious among them for me. Possibly died soon after Nanjo's death (maybe Nanjo and the criminal killed each other, or Jessica killed the criminal, who knkows). This can be related to these lines:

「あ、………あんたが犯人なんだ…。
絵羽伯母さん……ッ！！！」

「くっくくくくくく……、あっははははははははははッ！！　
気付くのが遅いわよぅ、戦人くぅんッ！！」

We are not told how real world Battler came to this conclusion. Maybe there's a link. For example, Eva saw Hideyoshi's body nearby (dead for sure), got nervous and said/did something that made Battler see the truth.

Could this be a hint that Ange will be like 'Rika' and Bern will be her 'Hanyuu'?
Could it be that, we'll see a change, starting next episode, like: little Ange (6 years old) showing up at the family meeting all of a sudden, with previous knowledge that murders will happen?

EP1 = Natsuhi
EP2 = Rosa
EP3 = Eva
EP4 = Kyrie (with little Ange on the cast this time)

Much like Rika, she won't have physical strenght to help, so she'll have to find another way.

Wild theories for the whole game:
It's clear that the overall setting is like Higurashi's. The enviroment is the same with fortuities leading to different results. Like Higurashi, maybe we have here a mastermind (Takano) and potential criminals (Rena, Keiichi, Shion...). In the case of Umineko, my guess is that Kinzo's children (Eva, Rudolf, Krauss and Rosa) and their partners are all potential criminals because of their economic troubles. In each game the mastermind approaches a different person, leading to different developments, secret rooms and such.

My guess: Much like Takano, Nanjo receives very little attention in the first games, he would be my mastermind, as we don't know much about his background. Since he has a great 'power' (confirm deaths), he would be very useful in this conspiracy, to fake deaths. The servants and Kinzo (just a crazy geezer, even though at first I thought he was the wire puller before) would be their pawns. The other siblings, partners and their children would be the preys.

Personally, this red text is absolutely useless. As I said before, Beato never reds that any of these 6 rooms as closed rooms. It's possible at least 3 of the 6 rooms may not have been true locked rooms.

1. The sanctuary. In ep 02, Beatrice never reds this room as a 密室. She only talks about the invulnerable door and how 6 people entered through the door. There is a possibility that there is a hidden passage way here which Beato never denies like with the other rooms.

2. Boiler room. How come the door that leads outside isn't mentioned at all? Where is the regular key (the non-master key) for this door?

3. 1st Floor Guest room where Shannon's body was found. Rudolf breaks the window, opens the lock to the window, then the adults go inside. After being inside, the adults think that this is a locked room. The big WHAT IF here is, was the window locked to begin with? They never tried to open the window. Rudolf just breaks it and everyone assumes it was locked. There is no way to confirm this as Rudolf prevents this prior the adults entering the room. (I forgot to cover this point in my previous post. I thought I wrote this out... I might have took it out thinking I should have placed it in a later place)


The game avoids talking about any of these issues.

I was under the impression that the doors could be locked from inside. But as far as the the Sanctuary goes, you're right. That uses some type of pad lock, irrc.

Since Beato was about to deny the accident theory, the death by natural causes remains as the only option I can think.

Be careful there. Beato didn't deny it, although I also assumed that she would have. As of right now, 病死 is the most likely if accidental, suicide, murder, or caused by a trap is not.

There are some other possibilities... but I didn't want to go that direction.
The main problem I have is 他殺 doesn't legally cover the following in most cases:

• manslaughter (is this covered in accidental?)
• self-defense (is this also covered in accidental or in Beatrice's definition of 他殺?)

I would hate it if Beatrice gets that technical with terminology tho.
I can't think of any other possibilities at the moment. And you're right, Beatrice never reds it isn't a 他殺. Maybe it's b/c these two possibility might be the cause but borderlines the definition so she didn't want to say either or... My biggest grip about this is, there's no sign of struggle which should be the case if self-defense is the cause. Hence I still think 病死 is the most likely.

Considering this hypothesis:

My biggest issue with the burnt corpse is this is a re-occurring event thus likely a planned event rather than an impulsive action.

If we are to believe the argument that 魔女≠人間、 what about 家具？
In Beatrice's eyes, ロノウェ + 塚７姉妹 and Eva Beatrice's new servants are on the island yet aren't counted as human. If these 家具 are not counted, why would she count Kinzo's 家具 when she repetitively says in EP 02 they are not human?

Both Beato and EVA Beatrice named who are dead, but neither claim that the 家具 are human to begin with or that the only people on the island are those that are named. I'm a bit perplex which way to take Beatrice's statement here. If I was Battler, I would request a 人間定義

chronotrig's post also made me think of another possible plot twist: the possibility Kinzo is already dead prior to night 1. The only people who talked to him were Nanjo, Genji, Shannon, Kanon, and Krauss. If this is a secret Krauss want to keep, and as the current 当主 he would have the authority to do so.

Personally, I doubt the above as it doesn't add up in my eyes with the situation presented before us. But the whole この六軒島には１９人以上の人間は存在しない could be misleading us to believe that all the characters we know are alive prior to night 1 and the only people on the island. Beatrice only state who are dead. She never states that these specific names are the only people on the island. So there is a possibility of upto 4 other people on the island. It's a long shot imho.

Again, I think I'll ignore this possibility of a 19+ person(s) until I can determine a situation in the story where none of the 18 people we know are on the island can preform the act.

Second attempt at the riddle. I'm going to forget about Eva at the moment and think about what Rosa said: 黄金の卿. What is the meaning of the の?

Forget the family line = 川.
If you really read this as word play, it might be 「の」の川。
「の」 separates the familiar word 黄金卿. In other words, the word puzzle
is self contain. We don't need to have knowledge about the family, places,
or anything else. We just need to look at the riddle:

　懐かしき、故郷を貫く鮎の川。
　黄金郷を目指す者よ、これを下りて鍵を探せ。

　川を下れば、やがて里あり。
　その里にて二人が口にし岸を探れ。
　そこに黄金郷への鍵が眠る。

If this the correct way to see this riddle, then what does 二人が口にし岸を探れ mean?
二人? does that mean repeated text? 黄金, 全て, 蘇らせ are repeated.
Does it mean words trapped within the の？全て, 死者. Maybe the line before it says 四つの
里？ 黄金郷の「卿」の意？

Eva gave us these definite hints:
海？ This is a key phrase Eva gave us. 蘇 = 魚？ 魚のいる場所は海? Seems too big of a stretch.

The key is a 6 letter word that isn't read as 6 letters.
If the 懐かしき、故郷 = 黄金卿 or 黄金の卿 then possible work with this?
黄 = きいろ(3), き (1), おう (2), こう (2), こ(1), たそ (2 - as in 黄昏), よ (1 - as in 黄泉)
金 = かね (2), かな (2), きん (2), こん (2)
の = の (1), ignore (0)?

Maybe the front and backdoor are locked/unlocked with the same original key.

In this part I meant that the last person must lock himself, according to that accident theory. If Kinzo was the last, he could not lock himself with all the masterkeys+boiler room key locked in the other rooms. And Kanon could not lock himself with his masterkey.

And as for the this stuff of:

In my opinion, it'd be way too much. It would not be, let's say, reasonable in my opinion, from Ryuukishi's part. It would be like admit that non-human beings indeed exist (and then, fantasy wins over mystery).

And I see no problem with '魔女≠人間' because the Witch simply does not exist (well, I think... hehe), or at least can't meddle in the human world.

Ria's argument is easier to solve things for Nanjo's murder than going into this way.

And Kinzo being dead from before things start would be interesting... But I also don't believe it. Way too many people would have to know about it; Nanjo, Krauss, his wife, the servants... And a big bunch of episode 1 would have to be deemed as illusion/demence/lie/cover up.

Alot more things have came out into the open, many rooms suddenly becoming extremely open rooms, and the several loopholes that most likely mean the answer of the mystery.

The furniture thing might make sense, but that would mean that there would be 3 people outside from that.

I think the argument is that furniture =/= people but ARE human in a way.

Here's something I found in the japanese forums about the riddle.
It's a little long, but please bear with me, it makes sense in the end.

If you start with the 黄金の郷 and the fact that Kinzo (and maybe Beatrice) was obsessed with English, a really odd pattern shows up.

黄金郷 is the Golden Land, El Dorado, something like that. But if you break it up into 黄金の郷 like in the 10th night, you have 'village of gold': 郷(sato=village). Now the weird thing is that the english phrase 'village of gold' seems to fit the riddle perfectly.

In ep3, they talk about how the 'killing' of people might be referring to removing kana, but this same thing could hold true for letters in English.

The first twilight: this kills the six chosen by the key. If we think of the first few lines as finding the key, then this 'key' would be a group of six letters, which we can then remove from the phrase 'village of gold' (which is where this thing ends).

There are a lot of theories about how to get these six letters from the first part, I'll leave that be for now.

The second twilight: this one kills the 'two who are close'. There are many ways to argue that this means the 2 ll's in village. L's are written closer to each other, they look kinda like two people embracing, they form the roman numeral II for two...there are a few ways this makes sense, definitely more so than any other pair of letters found in normal english words.

The third twilight: Praise my name. This is the answer to the riddle. For example, let's say we remove fog/aid in the 1st twilight just for the hell of it. We then remove the two l's for the second, and we have vegol. Anagram it to get glove or something, this is just an example. This would be the final answer, and you can reach about 30 five letter words this way, even without knowing the key.

The real trick of it is the next part. We remove 5 letters, one for each of the 5 nights.

And on the 9th night, no one is left alive. No letters left. This line never said 'everyone left will die', like they seem to think inside the game. It just means that there were 13 'people' in the first place.

That the english translation of 黄金の郷 has 13 letters, and that it has those two l's is a pretty big coincidence. Possible answers from this include olive, glove, field and a bunch more that might mean something to the people who lived on the island, but not to us.

Another thing, apparently Rosa and Eva found the hiding place of the gold, but we don't know where that is. Could it be that this place isn't on the island? As far as the red text is concerned?

Ace: From the very first game, just when they find Kanon's body, Battler dashes out the open door into the courtyard. They say that none of the doors in the courtyard had locks on them because there was no way into the courtyard from the outside (which is stupid on many levels, why do the windows have locks?)

Maybe it's because Kinzo's health situation. I got impression that the murder must be done before Kinzo death and he/she can't wait any longer since Kinzo might be already dead next year. "Beatrice" need Kinzo to alive when "Beatrice" start his/her plan or it will be all over. "Beatrice" only mention Kinzo in his/her letter, that must be the clue of how essential the presence of Kinzo at that time. From Pero theory about Kinzo's natural death, maybe Kinzo's early death ruin all his plan and makes the murder in this ep. strange since more people died before the ritual is completed.

Well, it's my theory so it maybe wrong after all

Is that scene really didn't happen in ep. 2? In your rough translation at wiki there's this line when Battler, Genji, Rosa, and Maria goes to Natsuhi's room to find George, Shannon, and Gohda

I took that line as the door were not usually locked, not that they can't be locked.
Lock here, I took meant like a padlock wasn't usually placed.

If these 2 doors can't be locked why did no one notice that they can go to the boiler room w/o a key. I'm sure is it locked, otherwise all 4 siblings + Natsuhi + Jessica are really really dense. If they really feared a boiler room malfunction they should have gone to this door.

btw what was the other door, I don't remember?
The 使用人 Kitchen door? If so that was locked in this episode.

In my opinion, it'd be way too much. It would not be, let's say, reasonable in my opinion, from Ryuukishi's part. It would be like admit that non-human beings indeed exist (and then, fantasy wins over mystery).

I don't know. 2 reasons:
1) The red text come from Beatrice. You have to accept her definitions of things.
2) Forget Beatrice. Let's look at Kinzo and how much he discriminates various things. In his eyes are they really "people?"

The MAIN reason why I don't like the this theory of 家具≠人間 is it opens a Pandora's box to the infinite regress problem. Why? Because if we accept the fact that 家具≠人間 then we have to accept the fact that all O音 are not humans. We don't know how many O音 servants are there (Shanon, Kanon, Lenon, Runon, Manon, etc - Possibly this is the 山羊's identity if we are to believe the fantasy arguement?). In addition to the X number of servants we would need to identify the other 3~4 "people" on the island as Beatrice confirms the number of "people." This endless doubt and suspicion is what Beatrice whats us to believe. That's why I think I'll continue the pursue that only the named 18 are on the island until there is solid evidence that none of them can be responsible for an action that has taken place.
