And this one is rushed as all hell once again. 6 chapters in just one episode, and going by the OP, they're going to adapt 6 volumes in only 12 episodes. They even left out key scenes like the one about Mutsuki or the explanations about the Quinckes. The adaptations are clearly aimed at manga readers who just want to see the fights animated. It might seem like a minor thing, but I dislike that they fucked up the Qs' kakugans. They're supposed to be of a lighter shade than the black used for ghouls and half ghouls precisely in order to show us they're different from them and still mostly human.

As someone who watched the previous seasons but never read the manga, I didn't see anything about this first episode that contradicted how Root A ended. I'm just assuming a lot happened during the timeskip, including Kaneki getting brainwashed and assuming a new identity.
Could one of you manga readers say (under spoiler tags) what was it that Root A changed about the original material that the Tokyo Ghoul:re anime will have to contradict? |

Tokyo Ghoul:re.
The awaited animation and sequel to Tokyo Ghoul has finally made its appearance for spring.
My honest thoughts are that I am not impressed with the first episode, since Pierrot took an abysmal fallback not only with the animation but the pacing as a result. I mean it isn't as if the writers rush through the episode rather there's hardly any build-up to prepare the audience to know better the characters both new and old ones. My guess is that the staff took a "let's-get-it-done-away-with-one-scene-and-go-to-the-next" approach. Worse things to observe is that the kagune no longer have this organic texture and feeling from the previous seasons but feel to me like robotic, spare parts sprouting from ghoul and quinx bodies. Moreover, Shirazu, who he and Saiko are my favorite characters amongst the Quinx, has his quirks and personality downplayed and adulterated from the looks and course of events transpiring in episode one. Spoiler:
But, perhaps, the greatest blunder of it all is messing with the psychological nuances which it's what makes fans like us so much attracted to Tokyo Ghoul. Spoiler:
We'll see what future whether bleak or brimming holds for Tokyo Ghoul:re, but expectations should be firmly kept low. For the time being, the opening song is the only stuff that actually grew on me with appreciation. |

Slower paced episode this week, with some changes. They introduced Kijima and Furuta earlier, and they removed the subtle evidence Haise was lying when he said he was happy (but they've probably never paid attention to that habit of his in the anime, nevermind mentioned it)
They screwed up Touka's hair. She doesn't look as beautiful as she did in the manga.

Episode 3 is out.
Saiko is my favorite from that group so far. Her personality is just so fun to watch whenever she interacts with others. Feels like an episode with a lot of comedy especially with the gender bender outfits. Sasaki actually made himself look like a girl and I'm impressed by that. Seeing some of Shuu's moments from this week also made me realize that I missed him from the previous seasons.

Watching episode 2 made me to grow fond with some of the changes taken from the source material. Nevertheless, I'm still icky at how they're exposing Uries' internal monlogues and tribulations without build-up due that to me seems the writers are just throwing those pieces of information about him to get him moving with his surgical operation to enhance his Quinx frame done.
Spoiler:
Others not so pleasant changes were that the friction amongst Shimoguchi squad and Quinx squad was drastically downplayed in light of Shimoguchi losing his comrades off-screen due to Aogiri Tree. Speaking of Aogiri Tree, I noticed in this episode that the plot is moving quickly with their upcoming plans for the first story arc. The last not so pleasnt change were the recast of the seiyuu for many of the old characters, since I grew accustomed to their voices in the previous two seasons released before :re. Leaving aside the not so pleasant changes, I do welcome nicely the other changes. From the manner Tokyo Ghoul:Re is marketed, the staff is putting special emphasis and exposure on Haise's family from the Quinx all the way to Akira Mado to Kishou Arima. IMHO, we're treated to a very personal and family aspect not only on the Quinx but also on Arima getting a little bit of exposure on his emotions, particularly how personal it played up the little spar between him and Haise. Lastly, oh my! Saiko! You're so plumpy and adorable! Bring up the ham, Saiko. |

They changed the ED a bit this week. The family is getting bigger. I actually enjoyed this episode much more than the last few, where the action was super dull. I got hyped when Unravel started playing against Takizawa (should have saved it for the end of the season) but it was followed by bad choreography and mediocre animation.

Been weeks since watching Tokyo Ghoul:re but haven't quit on the show.
Adaptations from the source material to the animated format can either miss or nail the story telling, plot points greatly reducing or adding to the impact of the story. In the case for Tokyo Ghoul :re, since it is too much content from the manga to adapt it is impossible for the anime staff just trying to cram, compress, and package every bit into a single episode. However, in my perspective I felt they did decent summarizing certain subplots without rushing through them in one swift go. Still, I get this uneasy feeling on what would Haise do when the memory of his other self finally resurfaces? Would he still be able to be with his Quinx family or part from them? The signs and flags pinpoint that good things can never last long, if I take seriously into account Roma's musing: Spoiler:

Main:Auction
The start of the auction came faithfully the same as in the manga though I would've been fine without the scene on the former actor getting helplessly auctioned off, aloting that time to delve more on Mutsuki helplessly being served to the den of lions.
In fact, Tokyo Ghoul's selling point goes on exploring and witnessing all the characters different, psychological nuances and their reactions. I would've wished this episode had delved more on Kanae's urge and Torso's obsessed frenzy over Mutsuki. As for the CCG raiding the auction, I feel that without background music the fights against Aogiri played plain. Nevertheless, since Akira herself has entered the fray I can only hope that the mayhem will skyrocket in the next episode. Moreover, let us not forget about the Clowns staying for the fun and chaos as Hirako Squad is about to clash against them. Lastly.... Spoiler:
