One rather interesting detail about that HQ scan is how Taniguchi and Kawaguchi (producer) are being briefly interviewed about Akito, even if I doubt they revealed anything too important. Hard to say for sure though.

Not a lot of information I'm afraid. They mainly talk about the setting of the show, and the viewpoints of the main characters, but the information is mostly based on stuff we already know. The only interesting part is how they acknowledged that the project has been in the dark for a very long time since it was originally announced, and they said the reason for that is that Akane wanted to have more time to be able to flesh out the backgrounds of the characters and the general setting, and to create a credible setting. It took a long time because they were detailing with story elements which did not exist in the original series, and so more planning and discussion was required.

Why would you want to do that? Youtube will just delete the video and give a strike in like 5 minutes. =/

Hmmm... it seems this totally slipped me by. Last month Ichiko Hashimoto (the composer) actually blogged about Akito, and it seems she has given away details which have not been announced yet.

She confirms that this is a "theatrical" OVA, and that they plan on doing irregular screening events starting from Summer. Each part is about 50 minutes long, and each screening event will be about 3 months apart. There will apparently be 4 chapters in total. So basically a 4 part OVA, each being 50 minutes long, with theatrical event screenings before they sell the BD/DVDs, just like Gundam Unicorn.

She also mentions that the soundtrack will probably be released this Fall.

So it'll take about a year to finish?

Yeah if they actually follow that schedule, and if the first part screens in July or August, then at around this time next year, we should be looking forward to the final part.

I see, well if it's just a year then I suppose I can wait--unlike Unicorn which still isn't even done yet...

I'm quite a bit late, but thanks for the information (again).

Let's see...4 OVA episodes x ~50 minutes? I suppose that's about the rough equivalent of 8 or 9 regular TV episodes in terms of total running time.

Not too bad for what looks to be a self-contained story arc. It sounds like a good plan, at least on paper, though it's easy to imagine that the commercial performance of the earlier episodes (say, 1-2) will surely impact what happens with the later ones, for better or for worse, so it's best to take this as general estimate and hope for the best when the time comes.

I wished that they had done Code Geass R2 as an OVA. This way, the creators might have avoided the production problems that it had when they had to rewrite the entire second season due to the timeslot change. When I mean by rewrite, I am referring to making Code Geass R2 into the global scale version of Season One as a way of making the show easy to understand for the new audience while attempting to forward the story from where the first season left off.
