This is an Anime Saimoe(Most Moe) Tournament 2006 chart compiled by someone. There are 17 divisions now, this chart has only up to 14.



Here's a simple list of all Haruhi characters' ranks in the Tournament:

Souseiseki who was a finalist (if I'm not wrong) in the previous (2005) contest.
And Nanoha (the third) was the other finalist so Mikuru is doing... quite well

If I had to choose between Suiseiseki and Mikuru, I would vote for Suiseiseki too.

..) Yakumo, from School Rumble. Fourth?!?! Ranked lower than Bohemi( from Pani Poni Dash!)?!?! WTH!

..) By far the hardest for me to choose... Yuki( The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi) and Ilya( Fate Stay/Night) are in the same category. Yuki... Ilya... Yuki... Ilya... ARRGGGHHHH! I can't decide! And the irony is that Ilya is older than Yuki... so I can't use age as a deciding factor...

..) Aika, from ARIA. Sorry, Rin( from Fate Stay/Night), but I ain't into 'Tsunderes'.

..) Another hard category... Kotori( from Da Capo) and Alice( from ARIA). Alice is by far, my favourite character in ARIA. So is Kotori from Da Capo. Hmm... since Kotori has not been doing well in the anime series, I will vote for Kotori. It's an outrage that she is dead last in this category...

..) Tamao, from Strawberry Panic. See signature. Psycho-moe wins.

Yea, that's what I read from the wiki too. But I think there is more than just that right? Cause the way Haruhi yelled "Moe, Moe!" it seems like it's referring to something more specific.

No need to overcomplexify( not an actual word by the way) things in my opinion.

Haruhi wanted a 'moe' person in her club so that she can exploit Mikuru's 'moe' and incite those feelings from outsiders. The Baseball Episode being a prime example, where she used Mikuru's 'moe' to get the baseball club to lend her the pitch.

Eh-to... so she is using her as a sort of tool, besides being an object for her to inflict her costume fetishes on. :P

Note how Mikuru is given the spotlight in the movie, and in the 'bonus' clips that they filmed in 'Someday in the Rain'. 'Moe' sells, and Haruhi knows it.

Also, 'moe' is a very general term, since different characteristics will trigger the 'I want to cuddle it!' effect in different people.

For me, I like Quiet-but-strong-moe( Yuki, Yakumo, Souju, etc...) and Psycho-moe( Tamao, Vita, Kaede, April, etc...).

So we also have Spectacles-moe, Mechanical-moe, Meido-moe, Anger-moe, Tsundere-moe, etc... and these are the more mainstream ones. We shall not speak of the weirder ones.

Mikuru has... one of the more common 'moe' types. That of the innocent girl in distress. Innocent-moe, so to speak. Although if we were to analyse further, Mikuru covers more than one moe-type. She also fulfills the Lolita-moe type, the Meido-moe, the Weak-moe, etc...
