For one thing, the way the story is built? The way the atmosphere, the "mysterious" foreshadowing spread out naturally over the episodes is quite well-done. It gives a lot of room for imagination (though a lot of this setting has already been explained from the game or official website). And while it gives off a dark atmosphere behind the cutesy-ness, it never gets gruesome or gorey. It's more of a sad, nostalgic feel than scary and horrific. And I personally like how they represent the animals' traits and their comparison with humans. In a way, it's strangely addictive. In another way, it makes sense why it is so.

Ep 07
Okay, the owls were great characters - I thoroughly enjoyed them. The scene with the testing the cooking made me giggle quite a bit for some reason. XD For those who missed the snippet after the ED we got a few more unexpected clues to where everyone might eventually be journeying, too. At first I was wondering who in the world the PPP were, but in the preview for the next ep it suddenly dawned on me! Kinda nice that they get a chance to show up in the series itself as well.

So the professor is an owl! Nice and traditional, there. Those two were fun. I hope we get a chance to see them, and our previous Friends, again before the end.
So Raccoon found a hat in the Savannah? Maybe that's where she got her feather. I wonder what's underground that Lucky Beast told her about. Still, Raccoon and Fennec are never going to catch up, are they? So we have it stated plainly that Humans appear to have gone extinct. At the very least, no inhabitant of Japari Park has seen them in a long time. It is curious that Ceruleans often used to be found near Humans, thus indicating that the things existed before Humans disappeared. What are they?

It still seems to me there are two possibilities: either this is a VR full dive world setting Kaban is still unaware of (which would explain the Cerulean in my mind), or else this really is a post-cataclysm type of setting where the humans (if there are any left) have gone underground - if the latter I think Lucky Beast's hints were regarding that. At the moment for me both have holes, but I am still inclined towards the first possibility as a working theory ... again, more than glad to be proven wrong.

Demonstrating to Serval how to start a fire - what could possibly go wrong?
No giant infodump this episode neither from Shoebill nor from the owls. Just a few more hints. Good. There are many Lucky Beast Robots and they apparently produce the Japari buns. No wonder everybody knows him/them. It seems the owls wanted to give Kaban and Serval something together with the tickets that looked like a match box. But then everybody started talking about PPP. Maybe we'll learn what that was when their pursuers arrive. Oh, and the library looked like an apple core. Symbolism? |

The OP switched the first-half characters with the second-half characters as well as add the second-half characters to the ending segment, but it actually also added movement to the tires of the bus. In the previous versions, the bus wheels were actually still while the bus moved.

Shoebill just can not catch a break. Even when she is being friendly she looks scary.
This kind of reminds me of City by Clifford D Simak. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_(novel) The pastoral travel log nature of the story, how nice all the friends are, and the humans becoming a legend to the uplifted animals they leave behind them. Last edited by Magewolf; 2017-02-22 at 01:05. |

Idol penguins are here at last! They're adorable.
For those who have watched any of the various idol-based anime that have come out over the past few years, you should be familiar with the basics that we got in this episode. Nothing too in depth, and focused more on devotion to fans than concerns about competition (because there isn't any competition in Japari Park), but still familiar. A bit convenient that Kaban and Serval just happened to run into an obsessive fan who was also a helpful person who is perfect to be the idols' manager, but that's the way this stuff goes. So, Japari Park is surrounded by water, and apparently humans were last seen at the harbor a long time ago. So have they fled the park? Why? I'd think a lot of animal/human-rights activists would have words with people who created a park full of animal-human hybrids and then abandoned them all to their own devices without proper preparations. Assuming humanity still exists outside the park, that is: we don't really know anything, but I think the revelations in this episode make it more likely that humans just fled the park and haven't come back rather than having actually gone extinct worldwide. Maybe. And I can't see Kaban deliberately stealing something. Whatever happened with Raccoon, I'm sure there's been a mix up of some sort. Also, I get that the hat is important somehow, but why does this endanger this entire park?

Mirai... I don't recall anyone named Mirai from the manga. Maybe she's in the game?
So, Ceruleans eat the energy from the Sandstar, possibly transforming the Friends back into normal animals? Hmmm... Huh, Raccoon is actually getting closer to catching up. I figured she'd always be two episodes behind. I'm still not clear on what she's trying to do, though. Also, I get the feeling certain fanartists are going to have fun with that "wait, you can take these off?!" scene.

I was always excepting Raccoon to catch up right in time for the grand finale. If Kaban is a friendified human does that mean a Cerulean attack might simply turn her back?
I laughed when I learned that the Friends didn't know they can take their clothes off. That leads to other questions I'd rather not think about ... Spoiler for Game spoiler concerning Mirai. Might or might not become relevant in the final episodes:

WHAT!? This stuff comes off!!!!???? LOL. And I agree, their ignorance that the clothes comes off leads to some unpleasant questions. But then again there was one spot where the angle strongly suggested that they may go commando, so at least a couple questions may become irrelevant. Still, eww. I'm sure they all NEEDED a bath.

It seems that Mirai's story didn't end up well, seeing how Kaban wears her ruined hat. And I wonder, who was that another serval. Since she had a different VA (Ai Nonaka, who also voiced Giraffe in this episode... and also voiced Serval in the game), I assume she is a completely different Friend.
