Intro from the interviewer- 今天来到演播间参与讨论的是 中国战略文化促进会常务副会长兼秘书长 罗援少将,欢迎您,罗少将。 Which translate (Via google) Came to the studio today to participate in the discussion of the China Council for the Promotion of Strategic Culture Executive Vice President and Secretary General Major General Luo Yuan, to welcome you, Major General Luo. He is really no different than one of those retired general/paid contributor type of personality, and I point out where he work out of is sort of a military university, like a military scholar of some kind. It is like Donald Rumfield rushing on Fox saying Iraq is historically part of United States or something. Actually, he would be worse than Rumfield since he have no real military credentials. People freak out and see a 2 Star General but that is an empty rank as far as policy power is concerned...but of course AFP had to spin him into a major general to make a juicy story. |

Look at it this way, Chinese people had to import The Daily Show online because political satire does not exist in China. If you have a big audience in China, the government wants to have control over what you can and cannot say about the country.

========== Last one for tonight. The long-anticipated coroner's inquiry into the death of American engineer Shane Todd in Singapore has entered its fifth day. The Singapore authorities continue to provide evidence that strongly dispute allegations of murder and conspiracy by Dr Todd's parents. The issue was sparked by a Financial Times article published in February this year, and first quoted in this thread by RRW. Shane Todd's parents essentially imply that Singapore police had been unprofessional and incompetent, missing vital evidence that apparently show that he had been murdered to keep secret highly sensitive research on gallium nitride (GaN) between Singapore's Institute of Microelectronics and China's Huawei. The Chinese company has been deemed by United States lawmakers as a security risk, as it allegedly makes communications equipment that could be used for spying. At the heart of the investigation is a hard disk that the Todd parents allegedly found in Shane's swanky home in Singapore, and which they claim contains proof of their allegations. Here's a run-down of the key findings from the coroner's inquiry: FBI clears up external hard drive mystery Quote:

2) Political Satire exists all the time, it is just subtle. There is political Satire on the Chinese New Year Celebration Show (an annual show that is watched by every Chinese), and it is full of Satire....performed in front of the Premier and major party leaders. They don't hit CCP directly, but they criticize social issues to show how the CCP has failed. Quote:
Of course, the Western Media couldn't be bothered to figure out a Armchair professor with a rank is different than a live general . But whatever... |

I am aware of that. If you read my statement a bit closer, my comment regarding my continuing love affair with the AP was directed at Vexx's statement about:
And other such comments about "the press" in general and is not related to the story itself.

Osaka Mayor is a bit more explicit than a member of the Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Military Sciences. That almost sounds like West Point to most people in the US, and thus directly related to military policies.
Of course, that doesn't excuse the lack of due diligence. |

Commuter train collision in Connecticut, on one of the country's busiest rail lines.
Wow, that sucks. No one's dead fortunately, but it looks like part of the Northeast Corridor may be shut down while they clean this up. For those of you outside America, the NE Corridor is like Amtrak (the national passenger rail system)'s jugular vein. I've ridden that line several times to and from New York. |
