Well, the Tiger is really easy to tell apart from its more advanced cousin, just remember: The Tiger is literally a square box with a pie-shaped turret, i.e. a circle on top of a square, just like a child's tank doodles. It really is an iconic design that can't be confused for anything else.

Girls & Tanks 10 - Flowers, Chi-Nu and Other Confusions
For being the guy who created this thread, and stating back in October that I was hopeful this wouldn't end up being another Upotte!!... unfortunately, I feel like I've ended up in that same spot. I know I'll have three months-ish to solidify my thoughts on this series, and I will continue giving it a fair shake until the very end (plus, that swimsuit OVA looks wonderful), but as of this point, I know fairly well what I like and what I don't. Not having any source material to speak of is nice in that in the finals have very quickly gotten underway. Seeing the sisters settling their differences should prove entertaining. Though the series hasn't necessarily made Maho out to be a bad person, and the split may not have even been her fault. The flower-arranging scene with Hana does make me wonder how a flower arranging anime/manga could go over. It's one of those art forms like tea making I've always seen mentioned, but never researched in depth. I'm sure there are plenty of intricacies that I'm not aware of. One of my biggest criticisms of the series has always been that it seems more like the characters are defined by their vehicles rather than the other way around, and this is further done here. While both the mechanics and the new team with Momogawa and friends have been in the opening, that's about seven new characters promoted to a role of importance while being given the absolute minimal amount of naming, characterization or even speaking parts. (And one of them is out of the action so quickly that their opportunities for anything to get attached to are basically nil.) Did appreciate seeing the old teams again. Miho makes friends with everybody but the Italian team apparently. Or maybe that happened offscreen. Yes, I know that this might've been remedied if the show was twice its length, but I must deal with what is in front of me... and this isn't even getting into the first years. Maybe this will be fixed in the OVAs, and there is still two episodes to go. I'm still enjoying watching it, I just can't get as invested in it as I would like to. We'll see in three months. |

Poor poor Midonin... I was actually in the same boat (I got attracted by the girls first), but the tank aspect pretty much swept me up into it as well, that it actually resulted in me playing World of Tanks! I can definitely see the attraction to the tanks, as each machine has their own character, so to speak.
Though I still think that the M3 Lee is an underperforming piece of junk (whereas in the real world it more than made an account for itself in the African campaign), but that's player experience coloring my opinion now.

It just feels like trivia on machines is overpowering the human aspect so strongly that the element I wanted to get invested with on the show feels like an afterthought at times. I'm not going to fly into a rant about it, it just leaves me second-guessing myself. It's a show with a large female cast having (some) cute character moments. I should feel right at home. But I don't.

It's fiction, not a textbook. I'm sure that this show/Upotte! provide a great forum for fans of these topics to engage in lively chatter, and it does tangentially relate to the show... but I'm not sure how much it's treating it as a work of fiction. A weapon or a musical instrument should function more as a symbol, rather than being something to simply recite factoids about. In K-ON!, it stands for the bonds of friendship and finding a purpose. For Strike Witches, it represents saving lives and discovering one's true potential. For the other two shows, the items, tautologically, seem to be symbols for themselves. They're used in tournaments and such, but that seems to be more of a way to show off the variety than to really define the characters or move them forward, even a little bit. |

And yet this show has received an amazingly strong response, one that it was not receiving while being compared to those other shows you are mentioning. As much as I wish for more character development, I have been forced to conclude that one of the things that has gained the show the following it has is the speed at which it has moved, speed it gained by focusing on the action and letting the characters been seen mostly through it rather than spending time and scenes outside of battle working on them.

There were some really sketchy looking parts in episode 10 (girls were often off model) which was distracting for me. The show has been pretty solid up to this point, so seeing it start to slip this episode was disappointing. I hate when a show's production quality falls apart near the end, so I think the delay will be worth it (and I hope episode 10 gets cleaned up for BD/DVD release).

Ooarai may escape the axe thanks to Senshado because it's popular, but the schools you named probably weren't in danger in the first place. Maybe because their home ports are big cities with lots of kids, maybe for other reasons (maybe the French school raises champions in competitive flower arranging? Maybe the Australian one has a great CS program? Who knows?). |

On episode 10: So the final match is being started. Looking at all the heavy tanks of Black Forest, it seems Oorai is even more at a disadvantage now than in their match with Pravda. Oorai team does have one Tiger on their side. But it's a prototype with a lot of mechanical problems. Good thing it's the mechanic team that will drive it. They might be able to perform some minor fixes on it at the battlefield, assuming they can hide their tank while they fix it. Surprised at how much the PZ IV has been upgraded, it looks like a very strong tank now. Miho meets and is thanked by the person she saved from drowning. This makes me wonder.. since the people she saved seem to be participating.. could there be a slim chance that these people would help Oorai some way in the match? Miss on purpose, get in the way so the Oorai tanks don't take a hit? With the odds very much against them, Oorai team need all the held they can get. And lastly, Katyusha isn't a bad person after all, offering a handshake to Miho like that. Still a little arrogant when she talks, but looks like she now has respect for Oorai after the match. "Operation Bagration" on a german themed team like Black Forest sounds fitting.
