Wait, what? That was the last ep? No way! Nothing really wrapped up...we still didn't get Hotaru's reveal, nor their victory over Hoshishiro, or the blossoming relationship between Hotaru and Mattsun...wth?! =_=. They better have a second season because ending it like this is ridiculous.

Tachibana pulled them together.
Survival game duel was a great idea to snap Mattsun out of it. Tachibana was being very serious about this. This was supposed to cheer Mattsun up.. At least he finally realized a few things. Did not feel like a final episode at all.

To be honest, the ending was exactly as I expected it to be. Hotaru returned to the team with none of the other plot points resolved. Although I wanted to see Hotaru's gender revelation and a defeat of some sort for Midori, I didn't think it would happen. Both of those events require more time to be done properly than the series had to work with. I'm just happy that the anime introduced me to a new story to follow when the manga starts releasing here in the US.
This show is my choice for Good Surprise Show of the Season. I tried it on a whim and became hooked to point where it was one of my most anticipated episodes of the week. I'll miss it a lot.

Wait.. that was the last one?
Oh well, Tachibana was a rather likeable and interesting main character for sure and I don't think I've seen such a fleshed out tomboy for some time. The other characters were also nicely put together as well. On the show itself, the primary focus was comady, mixed with drama. Through the gun fights were often rather exciting to watch, they were -not- the focus of the show, they were a tool to talk about feelings and conflict, which was a rather surprising way to deal with things. It looks like a boyish fighting show, but instead has more in common with girlish hearts and feeling shows.... which I guess makes it a reverse trap! B+ from me on the whole, hoping for another session. |

This final episode sure got some sweet moments, I started to suspect that Hotaru wasn't going to reveal her gender half way through the episode, it was really dissapointed. I really enjoyed that Hotaru vs Mattsun.
Hope it will get second season, I also hope for the translation of the manga to catch up in case we don't get a second season.

I guess this is where I start reading the manga...
Hotaru is awesome, she's one of my favorite new characters that I met in this season. The scene where she revealed her true intentions was great (and Komatsu Mikako was fantastic in it). Yukki was also great, although he had his moment to shine in the previous episode, but still, it was nice to see him not only simply being upset at Mattsun but actually telling him that he was truly hurt. (It didn't last long, though. ) In the end I never warmed up to Mattsun. Maybe it's because Maeno Tomoaki didn't give the character enough "oomph", or maybe because Hotaru, Yukki and even Midori are much stronger and interesting characters who overshadowed him... I guess it's a combination of both. Still, I liked the little twist that actually he was just being selfish. In general, I liked how the story subverted the expected tropes, with Hotaru not really fighting for "justice" but more like out of bloodlust and possessiveness, Yukki not simply being Mattsun's sidekick but an actual, three-dimensional character on his own, Mattsun not simply being a "noble but misguided gentleman" but struggling with issues himself, and Midori being a psycho dick but a lawful evil kind of psycho dick instead of an out of control monster. (I wasn't very happy about the last-minute "oh, Mattsun and Hotaru are supposed to be a future couple" thing, but eh, I'll overlook it.) I hadn't expected a lot from this anime, but it's really grown on me. I don't expect a second season, though... |
