One minute and I remembered Takahashi's weak point: Traffic accidents. They happen a lot in the manga.

EDIT: I finally watched it with subs. The animation didn't disappoint but Suzumura makes Wakabayashi sound even older than Kamui Shiro from X. Also, the ending was a nice tribute to the first anime.

Yes, this is the actual beginning. Some previous adaptations skipped the challenge to the actual match while the 2002 told this in retrospective.

I hope this will be like hxh adaption... anyway there was a couple of things I didn't remember in the chapter like the javelin guy and the shot with the bus.

Javelin guy was original, I'm pretty sure.

Ohh!!! I'm so excited! I saw this back in the 80s and then again when Japan/S.Korea hosted the World Cup in 2002. And now it's back! I love how confident (but not cocky) Tsubasa is, unlike a lot of the sports anime out there.

Bus scene was pretty darn cool!

Whoa, this is a sweet remake since the 2002 one. Also, like the CT2002 remake, CT2018 brings the story to a more modern time (again) now with smartphones (& probably social media in future episodes?). I'll definitely follow this! David Production did a good job so far.

Really like how they use the original Tsubasa song for the ED too .

Also, I don't know about the standard bus size in Japan but can a soccer-ball really go through it from below? I always question that since the times of classic Tsubasa .

This was a surprisingly faithful adaptation of the manga's first chapter, smartphones and javelin guy excepted. The animation quality is nice so far, but the real test will be when they start adapting the actual soccer matches.

Haven't watched the newest one yet. I hope they still keep the classic non-sense camera angle where the keeper's net slowly rises from below the horizon to show us that Earth is indeed not flat. (if anyone knows what I am talking about here )

Well, how about that? I downloaded the first episode for a quick nostalgia rush, but having seen all that, I think I'll stick around. Lots of cool scenes and surprisingly good protagonist (I don't remember much from the version I saw as a kid) gets my interest. Also, my god, does it show which other classic manga adaptation this director worked on before.

I think the bouncing baby part should raise more alarms, but yeah, I have my doubts as well. Not that I mind that much, it was cool.

Well, to be fair this is Takahashi comes up with really ridiculously cool shots or even ways to block the balls. Just google Twin Shot, the Drive Shot or Raijuu Shot to see things even crazier.

On the other hand, Takahashi has also tried to make more realistic football with Hungry Heart: Wild Striker.

Episode 2: Tsubasa talking to the ball?! Don't remember that trait. Still, the pacing for the short duel was okay and the animation was good despite the use of five identical guys

Episode 3: First football match. Glad to see the pacing is quite entertaining and that Ishizaki managed to score once. *mod snip*

Also, I hope we'll see Misaki soon.
