Original language. Supposedly the meme is quite popular in Japan.

I was surprised to hear the Skyrim reference myself. I laughed at it out of surprise

It's legit. According to folks elsewhere, the actual line used is word-for-word the line used by guards in the Japanese version of Skyrim.

Okay maybe I'm still missing something here, but that exchange between the trio and villagers in the first half was seriously bizarre. While certainly not far out of realm for people to act irrationally under ambiguous situations without immediate common sense explanations, but how that played out here was anything, but realistic. The theft of ring makes no sense to anyone with basic reasoning when taken into a count:

  1. The villagers had never seen these 3 enter the village.
  2. Even if they had stolen the ring, why comeback to the scene of crime banishing it in boardlight?!
  3. None of villagers seemed on edge or weary of strangers to prompt such a sharp 180 turn.

The logic here just does not follow. I speculated that maybe the townspeople were under some sort of spell that was muddling their cognitive abilities or some other reason for their would reveal itself in the end, but nothing. The whole thing really was that shoddy written... It's like not the ring was even needed at all for them to find the 3 of them suspicious anyway, Albus' outburst alone would have sufficed because it was already well established earlier how the village currently viewed witches.

Beyond that we got a bit world building, though most of it was most of it was more or less we heard in episode 1. I do like how White Fox presented the visuals on that part of that like a storybook. The Mercenary being called gramps was pretty interesting to since gave us an an idea of his actual age. From the way Zero described his human appearance it sound like he was a younger guy.

Overall, I found the episode okay but quite a step down from the premiere. Part of it being tainted by poor handing if the above scene that sparked this whole week's conflict. I just hope it's not a sign for similar writing problems that will show up.

The troubles with the village is all about paranoia and us vs them mentality issues, the real question is what kickstarted it, since it seems to have engulfed the whole region?

Yea, this is the one part of the episode that I don't like. Even in medieval times there were concepts of magistrates and the law to the extent that you don't just immediately try to hang someone. Clearly the problems are severe (considering all the gravestones and damaged houses) but even with those caveats it's too much.

This is an example of what I like to call Peasant Logic. Peasants in fiction are almost always stupid as hell and prone to bigotry and knee-jerk reactions.

I'm not even sure that the village is canon. They might have just added it to introduce some kind of conflict to resolve.

Well, that specific event doesn't occur in the first LN but after re-reading a few things last night I think it might actually be in line with the canon, based on some things that are said rather some events that occur. (That's about all I can say within the spoiler restrictions)

in case you haven't noticed, if you search "Zero kara Hajimeru", Re:Zero will come up

Is this on purpose I wonder

Also, why so many "Zero" in anime??? Perhaps our main female character is the progenitor of witches aka the "Zero-witch" (I just came up with that name, anime-only viewer here), why she still introduced herself as "Zero"? does Japan have some sort of fascination toward the number "0"?
_ Zero no Tsukaima
_ Zero Lelouch
_ Re:Zero
_ Fate/Zero
_ This "Zero" series
...etc....

Back to the series itself, it is surprisingly engaging, the characters are actually more fleshed out in 2 eps than many other series for their entire season

I'm enjoying this show so far. Hopefully it will have a soild conclusion at the end, and not something lacklustering, like a lot of shows have.

Another great episode, this time Zero and the mercenary reached the city and again confirming how the ignorance and preconceptions about Witches and half-beast people is messing with their lifes.

The scene of Zero getting new clothes was pretty good depite being only for fanservice, nice to see the Mercenary's reaction, after all he's still a man. The enemy this time helped to understand that the fear among the people is so big that they can point to anyone with a weird behavior and call them witches, showing how hard is the life for the ones that share the same power as Zero.

After looking at how Zero acted this episode we can reach the conclusion that she's not that young. I started to think that she likes the Mercenary more than just a simple companion.

Review here. This episode was mostly slice-of-life and gives a little more insight into why the beastfallen had it rough, with Mercenary and the Wolfman showcasing two different sides. The Wolfman embraces it, doing what he wants because he knows others are afraid of him, while Mercenary just tries to live his life being the best person he can.

"We are his sex slaves."
Just think what the guards must have thought that this huge beastfallen has two cute Lolis as sex slaves. xD
Interesting that Beastfallen will feel urges to eat human meat, quite scary thought actually. I wouldn't want to let somebody/something enter my house either to who/which I could never tell if he/it will suddenly crave human meat and lose to his urge eating my other customers, my family or myself. It was cool to see so many different Beastfallen in this huge city as well as the reason given why so many Beastfallen are still alive despite being "monsters". A sin of past life means you can't just erase it, for the child is not at fault but yourself from another life. I guess the church made that story so that enough Beastfallen would reach adulthood as they are a mighty fighting force. An army full of beastfallen could easily defeat a human army twice or trice its size. Obviously both the church and the nobles would want to use such soldiers for themselves.

Another nice episode. Fun/cute to see Zero and "Merc" get closer

Zero, you're just a trench-coat flasher aren't you!? The wardrobe upgrade is nice though and works very well animated.

An interesting episode in terms of content. Some things were expanded upon and some things were shortened but this was probably the fastest paced episode so far.

Most of it was. The bits with dog-face was expanded quite a bit, but the basics were the same - in the LN he also had 3 girls with him with same setup as in the anime and he also hit on Zero but they didn't have a duel, though the girls were rescued still. Zero removing his hair is also in the LN. I think the thing about beastfallen sometimes getting the urge to eat human flesh wasn't from this part of the LN either.

There were two fun scenes between Zero and Merc that were skipped but they might turn up later.

Well no, if she's the one who wrote the magic book, then she's been around for a while. She may be small, but she's not a little girl.
