Very neat, I like it a lot. It makes use of that effect that they overplayed in Sin City (having everything in monotone except for the eyes, or occasional other features/clothing), but there's more to it.
Just to let you know, I went on an outing to an art museum today and remembered your works - I took two (maybe three) shots in monotone, just as an experiment I'll post them up to my thread later. I still prefer color, but it was pretty neat.

On an unrelated side note.
I got a new job! Hooray! The title is something like Media content manager or something like that. Job includes pagination, composition, graphics design, video and audio editing etc. Perfect for someone like me who does a little bit of everything but nothing particularly well... A transfer within the company so quite minimal hassle even. I need to wait till August for the transfer but my vacation is coming up as well so I think I'll handle the wait. Me happy! I'm getting rid of the incredibly tedious sales job. |

One thing I'll be buying quite soon is Canon 50mm F1.8 II prime. Excellent lens and costs less than 100€. I'm also thinking of buying something in a 10-20mm focal range and a replacement for the PoS 18-55 EF-S. I was thinking of Tokina 16-50mm F2.8 and 11-16 F2.8. Roughly 450-500€ apiece so I won't be buying both at once so I have to decide which I'll buy first. Probably 16-50. I really need a new monitor as well since my current one pretty much sucks more than a vacuum cleaner as far as color reproduction etc. is concerned. Not very rewarding trying to do photo retouching or graphics... We'll see how much money I have to throw around and what I'll go for first. I'll be dedicating part my summer holidays to photography. Haven't been able to do anything in a while because of my quite insane schedule. It's been quite a month or two. Just bought a new apartment and somehow managed to move my stuff in last weekend and now a new job. My head is spinning... I was thinking of writing a couple of photography tutorials as well. A cheapskate's guide to basic studio photography and a B/W photography basics guide. We'll just have to see when I have the time to do that. The B/W basics guide is a bit easier job since I don't need a huge setup for the example photos so I'll probably do it first. BTW. Still waiting to see your B/W shots. No rush. I'm just a bit impatient kind. Last edited by escimo; 2008-05-21 at 12:23. |

Very artistic-looking pictures; I like them quite a bit!
Question: do you have any experience with IR photography? I'd heard of it before and thought it was just a way to get quicker focus locks in the dark (by using an IR light), but apparently it's a whole type of photography in itself. By using an IR filter you can see some really interesting things... since you're a fan of monotone photography, I thought IR might be something you'd be into, as well. IR isn't quite monotone but it often comes close. When there are colors they seem a bit faded. It results in overall ethereal pictures. I haven't checked the prices of IR filters because I'm afraid that they're going to be really pricey But if they're not too bad ($20 or less, I hope!) I'd definitely get one. Check out the "False Colors" section of this website for some examples of IR photography. The last one shows how colors come out, I think... perhaps he manipulated the image.
