I think part of the show's "flaw" - if it could be said as that - is the need to leave at cliffhangers. They just seem to pad things out to get to the cliffhanger point. I think, eventually, they'll have to let go of that and learn to end the episode at less-than-cliffhangery points.
I really liked this episode more than last episode, though. Last ep, the drag was a lot more noticeable with so many recycled scenes used for long speeches.... At least, this time, while we have a lot of stills, stuff happened at least. I can't wait to see more Jean... and just who'll save him... assuming he doesn't save himself on his own... |

The best part of this episode was Mikasa blushing when Ian said, "Defend your boyfriend."
This episode seemed a little too slow, was hoping for more action. Guess I have to wait another week.

It's because you can read much faster than a person can narrate, so you can quickly go over scenes that would take much longer when animated. It's like those internal monologues in Naruto where they'd pause in the middle of battle to think about battle strategies. Works in the manga where you can read the entire page in like a minute but when it takes 5 minutes in the anime it just completely kills the tempo of the fight.

It's not so much a motivational speech as it is additional insight into what Eren's fundamentally about. The hallucinations also reveal what's happening inside of him when his titan form is out of control, namely, he's in a happy and ignorant stupor.

From the looks of it with Eren being a Titan the person inside is in a state Lotus Machine hallucination , if we take Armin's supposition of the neck part.
The person's desire is a factor. Eren dreamed of killing Titans he wasn't conscious of what he was doing. Hence mumbling he'll kill them all even after he is extracted. Here he was dreaming of his parents and Mikasa. His Titan form responds by trying to kill Mikasa. If Titans were humans they'd seek human company in their heads. But outside their Titan forms are hunting down humans and eating them. |

I still don't get why they have to give a recap at the beginning of every episode, unless it's because there's not enough manpower to draw new material and they have to fill it up with something else.
About this episode... well... it started out quite ok, but seemed quite dragged on towards the end. I actually expected to see Eren standing up carrying that huge boulder around before the credit rolled in but the director disappointed me. Why not cut the recap to have more time for a better end? Or do they HAVE TO end the Trost arc in 13 eps? Episode 1 is still the best so far. |

I felt this episode was better than the previous one, but Eren's hallucination sure took up some time. I think it wouldn't have felt that slow if I watched them all at one go, instead of having to wait for the next week. Anyway, since we're nearing the end of the first cour, I hope that the coming episodes will make up for the recently slow-paced ones.

I felt like this show has lost a of steam in the past few weeks. Watching the trio try and get out of being killed by their own was at least a little more interesting due to it being a novel situation that could go many ways but this has so far been pretty damn predictable and I can only really see it going one way so I just hope they hurry up soon.

Yeah, the show has crawled to a DBZ's pace. Seems like noone really cares about what's going to happen because all they want is Mikasa blushing and gushing, fuck if the story doesn't move an inch. It's Defense of Trost PART 9 and only one remarkable thing happened all this time. This show's a huge disappointment and I'm thinking about dropping it.

Is there a confirmed info, that episode 13 would be the last one in Trost arc? If so, they have to animate a lot of action. And if i understand correctly, they didn't want to split Eren carring the rock into two episodes.
