Wow, people who wanted the d*ck jokes back should be pleased.
Seeing Kagura and Kamui's mother was quite the surprise. I wasn't expecting her to have a significant role beyond the exposition of Kamui's background. Instead, we're getting Umibouzu's and more info on altana. If she was like Utsuro though, I wonder how it was possible that she died, unless she's really still alive in some other incarnation... Otherwise, this could have some implications on Utsuro's future. |

Chapter 579:
Ah we got a background story about Kouka (Kagura's mother) this chapter. Now I know where her pretty face came from Good chapter, really liked how the personality is similar to her daughter as well.

Ah, the tale of Umibouzu courting Kouka. It looks like the Yato siblings got their personalities from Umibouzu and their looks from their mother. She even has the ahoge. Although, I have to admit, I couldn't look at that "hair ornament" without thinking, "Oh lord, Kagura's mom wears a p*n*s sheath too."
Plot-wise, the length of time she spent on Kouan might be the reason why she became ill. I'm curious as to how altana will come into play. Complete flashback chapter, but quite enjoyable. |

Hm, Kamui's hatred makes sense now, but it seems he didn't understand that Kouka made that choice knowing she would die. I also didn't quite agree with Umibouzu continuing to blame Kamui for getting into fights. The first time on-panel was fine, but after that, Kamui was taking all the hits, seemingly without fighting back, yet he still reprimands him. The kid is being picked on, and he's not doing anything back. What else is he supposed to do?
The first pages were quite nice though, especially seeing Umibouzu running from those pans with Kamui on his back. Whipped indeed. Also, baby Kagura! And this panel is classic Gintama at it's core: In other developments, I wonder what Harusame was doing on the planet. We'll probably find out next week, but in the meantime, I didn't think Umibouzu had any connections with them until now... It seems there's something more going on than just discovering the truth about his mom that will make Kamui leave. That second to last page where Umibouzu says that he'll leave to save her seems like a big clue though, since Kamui was trying to emulate him up until then. He might have left to follow in his father's footsteps. Perhaps he thought Harusame would have a cure or something? |

Utsuro is definitely not dead. He's an opponent only Gintoki and Takasugi are allowed to take out. Umibouzu will only weaken him.
Utsuro is even more of a monster than I thought. He had little trouble keeping up with the strongest Yato.

^ Don't forget Zura. He hasn't been on standby for ages now.
I think with this Yato arc, we have pretty much everyone's backstory except for Utsuro and Oboro, which I suppose we'll finally get once the last arc starts. I liked Umibouzu and Kouka's story, but I'm not sure how I feel about Kamui. On one hand, we get to see that despite all that power, he's actually quite frail emotionally, but I don't see how Gorilla-sensei is going to wrap up his arc. I really don't want it to be a sudden change of heart after Umibouzu dies protecting him from Utsuro or something along those lines, since that would seem so incredibly cliché. I already didn't quite like how Takasugi's awakening was handled, with him just happening to know the situation already. I suppose after the last two arcs, my standard for Gorilla-sensei increased to a ridiculously high level that I haven't quite been satisfied with the execution lately, despite there still being great moments every chapter. I don't know. Is it just me or is anyone else feeling this as well? |
