Macbeth but with Haruhi characters would be so much better than the movie version my class watched last year. One of the witches had a southern accent, and everyone had a mullet. The only theatre version of it that I've seen involved vampires and dance numbers set to eightiesish music out of nowhere. I also saw that theatre group do A Midsummer Night's Dream. There were aliens everywhere and sometimes Puck alternated between being a gay sailor and an olden-timesy journalist. At least the book versions were marginally more sane. |

And the reason for that is because there is no one else badass and long-winded enough to play Ross. Quote:

...Wait a second.
Wait, wait, wait, wait a second. ...Kaisos, are you saying... That Mori has a surname? Holy shit. I always thought Mori was her surname, and she wasn't given a given name because Kyon fails at that sort of thing. Also, to be relevant to the topic at hand, I'm American and uncultured, therefore I've never read anything Shakespeare. Nyoro~n.

Funny to see the anti-SOS as the murders. Mitsuuru is Itsuki's son? Tsuruya (M) as the Porter would be hilarious. I would do this just for that scene with Ross and Lennox.

Though, it is sometimes more interesting (and amusing) to see things made to appear as if the Bard wrote them himself... For example |

20,000 milestone passed. Another 200+ more pages, the thread will be full; and we'll need a new one. 600+ more to catch Outer Cadia. Unless you include our image thread, then it's half that.
Macbeth; is Kyon really suited as Machbeth? His personality should be inambitious. Witches: You'll be king. Macbeth: Yare, yare... (facepalm) Also, shouldn't Yuki be a witch? After all, she has the experience; in both sinister plots and prophecy. Well, a Kyonko is fine too; because she reminds me of Discworld's super snarky Witches of Lancre. |

I was under the impression most American high school students would get exposed to at least one work of Shakespeare in their English classes. I'm pretty sure I was exposed to at least two via reading assignments.
Haruhi does know that the play Macbeth is suppose to be cursed, right?

But I'm somewhat unusual in that respect... Outside of people studying theater, most American school students I've come across don't have nearly that much of an exposure to Shakespeare, if any.

You mean Shakespeare isn't a national reading requirement in English? I...I'm...*speechless* This is truly a travesty. Honestly, if they complain about the unreadability of his plays, just start pointing out all the insults and bawdy jokes. That should grab their attention. Also, Shakespearean insults. 'Nuff said. Thou odiferous motley-minded fustilarian! Rozencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead is one of my favorite plays (I nearly died of awesome in that scene of Live Alive). I love the movie as well (though the most boring parts are lifted straight from Hamlet. I hated Hamlet, he just wouldn't shut up.) re: Tsuji Macbeth. Yeah, I'd watch that. (Ha! My post isn't completely off-topic!) |

As far as I'm aware, a big issue is that there aren't national standards for education in America. Everyone complains about it, but changing it is as hard as getting the left and the right to agree. |
