In about one hour, the Fantasia Bunko 2017 event will once again have a Full Metal Panic panel. 2 years ago is when the new anime was announced and last year we got news of Xebec producing it, the DVMC audio dramas, and the (since delayed) Oct. 2017 release date. This year is a bit of a mystery to what will be shown considering the teaser PV earlier in July and the new release date had already been announced. I'm personally hoping for more staff news such as music composer and such (hoping Toshihiko Sahashi will once again return to compose the series with new music). Also maybe more promotional art? Possibly a clip of an episode? Who knows what exactly, so it'll be interesting to see.

Here's a link to the live stream: http://ur0.biz/GAFD

UPDATE: Here's a brief rundown of what they introduced at the event:
  • Release dates for the director's cut movies;
    • Movie 1 (11/25)
    • Movie 2 (1/13)
    • Movie 3 (1/20)
  • A new trailer for Movie 1 featuring the first series TV footage cropped to 16:9
  • A new promotional art poster for FMP Invisible Victory
  • A new FMP Invisible Victory trailer combining previous PV footage with newer scenes added
  • New figures [Metal Build] line for the Arbalest
  • A FMP PS4 game announcement, complete with a trailer featuring an English narration voice over

Pretty exciting. I'm personally a tad dissapointed with the CG route they showed in the new Invisible Victory PV considering they promised hand-drawn mechs when they first announced the new anime back in 2015. However if kept to a minimum, I have high hopes for the overall look. The characters look quite good with the newer Xebec animation. I sure as hell can't wait. Less than 6 months until it's premiere!

It looks like it will be a combination of hand drawn and CG mechs. Back when they first announced the new series in 2015, Gatou said it was going to be all hand-drawn mechs. However it seems whatever production issues that happened behind-the-scenes, which caused a delay until Spring 2018, possibly influenced Xebec to use CG as well. That's my speculation anyways; the CG could have been Xebec's plan from the get-go.

The CG mechs won't be a problem for me if it's done with Majestic Prince or Gundam: The Origin-level of competence. And I trust Xebec for making mecha anime more than many other studios these days. They're the one who successfully rebooted Space Battleship Yamato and made an excellent string of Fafner/Dead Agressor anime series after all. They also made the epic Heroic Age, the great Broken Blade anime along with Production I.G., and their Argevollen is a really underrated show. Their mecha-show resume is actually pretty impressive in the last two decades which probably can only be matched or surpassed by Sunrise.

New FMP IV official site: http://fullmeta-iv.com/

There's mention about 2018-something there, but I don't know Japanese, so I can't say what it says. I also can't copy it into google translate, because it's a picture

http://fullmeta-iv.com/movie/ - here are details about the FMP S1 director's cut movie.
