Do your parents watch anime?

My parents would never watch anime. Whenever i talk about anime, there like "What's anime?" even though i talk about it alot. I feel like i want to bang my head agenst the wall! XO

My parents do watch anime, but so far only dubs on tv. My mum recently found Nanoha and is enjoying it.

my mom has nothing aginst me waching it and doesn't think it's childish. i don't think she knows there are things like ecchi and hentia in the anime word. LOL

my dad probably doesn't know what it is and most likely doesn't know i wach it. my dad lives somewhere else so he doesn't understand what i do in my spare time.

If I occupy the Television before my parents then nothing really bothers my step-father about watching them too. He doesn't "adore" them, but he has quite liked some episodes of certain anime, such as "Gunslinger Girl" and "Fullmetal Alchemist". Those are the series in which he showed most interest in whilst I watched them. Probably because they are more drama and serious in a lot of cases.

My mother sat through an episode of "Samurai Champloo" once, and all she had to say about that was "All the characters look like teddy bears, don't they?". All I had to do about that was "*Fact-Palm*". Haha.

just for grins... my mother has seen Totoro and Spirited Away. She's seen a couple of comedy episodes from Lucky*Star and Azumanga Daioh. But mostly she's just oblivious to it as she's been mind-wiped by reality shows, info-tainment, and talk radio. :P

However, she's 70, whereas I'm about to hit 51 My kids (18 and 23) and their friends are all anime fans to some extent. Younger son's girlfriend and the gang are going as Soul Eater characters to the local anime convention this year. Unfortunately, #2 son will already be off at college and will miss out.

lol im anime fanatic and my dad knows practicly more animes than i do. thanks to him i grew up on stuff like robotech, macross, street fighter, and i got an early start on dbz.

I remember when I first got into anime. I was watching at on youtube (don't anymore) And when my mom was in the same room she would go "ching chong chang" and that shit. Mocking the language because I never watched them in english. I got head phones soon after that. My dad just says likes to say grow up. Why do you watch this stuff? bla bla bla. My sister doesn't like it either. Just recently I was watching an anime on my hdtv and my dad actually started making grunting noises when a character would yell mocking it. I'd really like to face palm both of them.

Frankly.... they sound like ignorant racist asses and you can show them a 50 year old engineer father of two said that

How many languages do *they* speak? What do they know about the cultures of the world outside their little reality? I know they're your parents... but they don't score any "grownup" points at all with that behavior. It sounds juvenile.

My Dad speaks Italian and english. My mom speaks only english. My mom, sister and dad are probably equally scored on the racial ignorance scale but at least they have no problem with me being gay. They won't hate or not associate with any one based on their race. They would never mistreat people based on their race eirther. Just some of the stupid stereotypical jokes they make really annoy me.

I am not often the one to curse, even on a website through writing, but that stereotype really pisses me off. Well and truely. Japanese people and their language sound absolutely nothing like that at all. If one heard and watched programmes such as anime all the time and actually listened and became familiar with it more then they would probably realise that.

I'm guessing that they're getting Chinese and Japanese mixed up, the "ching chong" thing is a common insult towards Chinese (see Rosie O'Donnel). To me, Japanese sounds very, very different than Chinese but I guess to some people, "they're all the same" to them.

Well put out, and I couldn't agree more.

Some of the Chinese language and names do sound vaguely similar to those stereotypical comments, but just because Japan is located very close to China and they resemble eachother a little bit, just like the French and the British, they simply assume they are the same in almost every way. "Ninja's this...Sumo that....Martial arts..", those people really put a stick up my backside when they think that. In a lot of cases I have heard "It doesn't matter, they are all the same!". That also proves an aggravating comment, and quite a popular one at that. It really ticks me off so much, and I am in no way related to an asian community either.

You are right, 'tsching tschang tschung' is even present in the German language as an (insulting) caricaturisation for Chinese speaking. And really, if someone can't distinguish between Chinese and Japanese he better sees an ear specialist as soon as possible.

And no, my parents don't watch anime, AFAIK, but who knows, maybe they do so in private....
