I'm not sure I see what's coercive about it. From what I could see, most of the other girls wanted to help her make it happen. I would have too given the chance, although that's probably just me being a romantic sap.

It's like putting the other person in a position where they don't want to be the bad guy, thus don't want to respond unfavourably to the advance. I've actually heard of people doing this a lot and the end result is never good for either person.

Assuming this was her intention, which it may not have been but likely was.

I took that flag exactly the opposite way. What stood out for me was that Tomoe was so irritated when Enishi kept talking about Takako.

None of the men in this series deserve to be with anyone. I can see why tomoe isn't married because the okada universe is a terrible place for guys.

What about Ren? He's also single as far as I remember, and he's better that those two guys. Shit, even Beanman is a better option than those two.

That's only because Enishi is incredibly irritating. Not the first time she's been annoyed by him, not the last.

He is, but I, too, found it suspicious that she seemed to enjoy his story until he starts talking about Takako. She instantly frowned, and even pointed out that particular name, from which she seemed completely uninterested in what he had to say. Still, the way he said it def seemed annoying, so I could see Tomoe walking out on him. She may also be kinda irritated about him bragging about his relationship, but not the relationship itself.

No, no. She's going to seduce Tooru and NTR Minko. It's the push Minchi needs to realize she should have been more honest with herself!

Nako x classmate painter girl please. Ftw. They'd make a cute and sensitive couple for each other.

No comment on the Minko drama, but I thought this episode was pretty good for what Hanasaku Iroha manages to deliver most of the time. Natural interaction between the four female leads without a transparent lead-up towards 'drama' or a 'character' arc is the 'main plot' of Hanasaku Iroha to me.

Anyway, I wish Nako and that painter classmate would just push each other down or something. lol.

Yea, she was like "really, you fucks decided to give me screentime and I have to talk this guy?" Of course neither really count for characters so I guess I don't care.

Well, ok Tomoe almost counts as one.

Honestly, any kind of shipping at this point seems like wishful thinking.

I have to say, this show REALLY took a quality dive after the Tokyo arc.
Like other people have said, I can't believe we're at episode 18 and we're STILL doing single character arcs, it leaves me wondering what exactly the last big arc is going to be (after Minko's arc then we're done all the characters right? Unless we go into Beanman) and better yet if it will even amount to how great the Tokyo arc was.

I'm expecting things to wrap with a four-part Omurice Girl arc.

Why does this strangely sound plausible for this show?

Well, I understand the logic behind your position, at least. It's still definitely not how I read it. The other girls seemed pretty committed to her cause, which makes me think she actually had been pinning after him a long time. She's emotionally fragile to be sure, but I don't think she manipulated anyone or intended to do so, and hence I find her a bit of a sympathetic character.

I don't think she wants him as he is right now. I read it as "you have so much potential, and you're squandering it on that damn woman". And as Frubam said, simple jealousy could be another cause... knowing she's losing to Takako has to hurt even if she doesn't think the guy is worth much.

I suspect that its just ship tease though. Much as I once would have liked my "Tomoe will whip Enishi into shape" theory to be proved right at once time, that's no longer the case. The end of episode 17 was already a waste of what the arc had been building towards, switching direction on Enishi/Takako would just make it even worse and that level of fail was far enough out of character for the show that I simply cannot see it occurring twice.

If this show ends with a side character arc, I will eat a pair of boxers soaked overnight in Tabasco sauce.

...Am I seriously the only person who believes that this series likes to save it's best cards for late in a cour? I do seem to be one of the few people not surprised that the first half of the second cour was sidestories (with one possibly laying threads for later).

The Bonbori festival will be the final arc, I believe.

If it doesn't...I can't think of what I'll do.

Given that the outfits showed up again after 13 episodes, I think its safe to say the Bonbori festival will play a bit roll, they've just mentioned it too many times for it not to be the case. But I thing there's going to be a hell of a lot else going on too, as there's a few plot threads I cannot imagine not coming up in the final arc.

No, your not the only one.

I'm holding out on saying anything yet on this episode until the next one, since the Minko sub plot has been arguable the shows best case of long term and constant development.

But needless to say, I liked this episode. I like pretty much every episode of this show, though to varying degrees, but I still enjoy it even at it's lowest. Funny, since I'm a person who had lost any hope long ago (during the days of Canaan) that Okada might be able to not do stupid stuff in her shows (with this shows putting the finale nail in the coffin seriously what was up with that dream sequence!? Like WTFBBQ ... random stuff happen without explanation at all and then the show sort of glosses over it like the narrative can recover from that ... stupid shit like this is what Okada gets off to I suppose)

But honestly, this was a good episode, though like with many two parters with this show, I want to give it time to show me where it's going before passing judgment.

That's another way to enjoy the show I suppose Though seriously, I wonder what was up with Nako and that girl, it sounded like the class has bailed out on the two?

I don't doubt that the series will conclude with at least a two-episode arc centered on the "main" storyline. I just think by that point, no one should be surprised if a large segment of the audience has stopped caring. You can only ignore things for so long and expect people to still attach any meaning to them when you get back on-topic.

Goddamn, I enjoyed the shit out of this episode.

We finally get to see our gang truly fest it up for the good ol culture festival. We got that Nako doing the precise measurements for stuff, we got Ohana doing whatever the hell she wants, and we got Yuina putting on the maximum waittress swag, and we have Minchi in charge of the cooking and food business. But Minchi truly shined in this one, shooting down that cliche Omelette Rice shit. I was totally rooting for her as she laid down the fuckin law on that Yuki bitch with the obligatory "yelling at the tv screen while flailing my hands and saying oooohhhhhhhhhhhhh". That little bith couldn't handle the heat, so she had to quit before Minchi was about to light her up once more. Not to mention how she rejected her crush too on that field trip. Double whammy!

True player status.

Minko is a VERY annoying hypocrite. Who does she think she is?
If I were the other girl, I would smack the bitch in her face instead of running away.
