Given we have 2 cours, I think the only reasonable stopping point would be the end of the 5th volume.

On the other hand, Kumoko's personality was really fun to watch imo. Even as a spider, she shows a lot of human personality and have to adapt with her new lifestyle. Other characters like Ooshima also adds some ligiht entertainment but I think they will be overshadowed by Kumoko, still might be worth to keep an eye on.

It's hard to judge this show yet on the first episode altgoether but it has me entertained.
I didn't mind the CGI too much, surprisingly. The acid the frog fired felt kinda off though. And during that fight the way the camera angles changed didn't really help the flow of action I thought. There were also times when Kumoko's inner dialogue felt misaligned with what was being shown. Minor stuff.

Overall pretty happy. Pretty happy with the voice acting. Keep it up...

watching the OP sequence, I thought I was starting an episode of Log Horizon..
Girl having a positive attitude makes the watch enjoyable, and Psyco-Pass voice being the system narrator is great

I hoped it would keep the focus on our spider girl like in the manga/novel but it seems that would have been too boring so they showed the regular humans right from the start.

Sensei became a cute.^^
The novel does have the cuts to the other class members the manga for some reason completely has completely skipped over them. The anime in fact skipped a few of them as it started with a new born Schlain, show him meeting his friend Karnatia and then going of to school where they meet their teacher.

episode 1:

the background music when she is thinking at the start feels like an rpg game. Good job bgm people.

that's a monstrous looking deer!

brutal death for frog monster.

the human parts are terrible, annoying guy needs to die.

and lastly, the ending where she sings as a spider idol being cheered on by other spiders is hilarious. lol

looking forward to next week.

Kumoko's fun personality made this episode for me. Not too much happened so I'll stick around for her.

Those are not spiders, those are other monsters.

I've only read the manga so, those cuts into the other classmates seemed out of place. Also I don't really care for them, I'd rather see more of our MC.

Episode was decent, but CGI ... just why? I've seen much worse; this one was at least watchable. Yet why did it have to be CGI at all? Why not be hand-drawn like say, Slime .. Would've been much more enjoyable experience.

Complex handdrawn animation is a dying art. These days, new animators are already having problems animating quadruped animals, armors and mechas. Remember how Goblin Slayer turned into CG in some scenes? Remember how we often see CG horses & cattles? Remember how 90% of mecha nowadays are CG aside from Gundam? Animating a blob like slime is a walk-in-the-park compared to animating protag with 8 limbs that constantly move.

Heck, the only reason Monster Girls are still mostly handdrawn animation is because their handdrawn human-part cuteness is still important for merchandising. That's why animating a 100% spider protag with 8 legs is left to CG to save more time & money. At least that's how I see it.

Horses have always been a problem though, back then, there was just no way around it.

CG has an advantage though: It's reducing the danger of sloppy in-betweens.

Its not perfect, but still way better than Kancolle.
Of course no one can top the CG Masterpiece that is Netflix's Ghost in the Shell.

GITS 2045 is a masterpiece compared to the CG Berserk and the upcoming EX-Arm.

I think the CG worked well, at some point we'll have to accept that things are simply heading in that direction and stop being so purist and just enjoy what we get. As long as we don't get shit CG, grumbling about it won't let you enjoy anything in the future.

That said, loved the first episode. Don't recall her being such a happy-go-lucky kind of character in the beginning, but she was fun to see. Didn't care for the introduction of the other reincarnations, not sure how they'll handle that in coming episodes, but too much name dropping for people who just got introduced to the series could find hard to follow.

In all, considering what we had expecting after the first PV came out (which was awful), I'm very happy with the first episode. The OP and ED were great as well.

Yeah I understand the historical blasting of CG effects, but the ones in this episode felt rather natural (ie: not AWESOME, but not EWWW either) and didn't leave a bad aftertaste.

I thought for a while the whole series was going to be a monologue by Aoi Yuki. Not that i wouldn't enjoy that.

Still this show may just be too hokey for me.

One possible problem with the anime could be it just goes so fast that you don't get a proper sense of how dark and dangerous the situation is. That being said, the seriousness of the situation isn't immediately apparent in the other versions either.

There's already some hints of this. For example, the Taboo skill. There's been a number of anime set in a RPG-like world with skills... but how many have had skills that are clearly negative?

Taboo isn't clearly negative. It could just be some chuuni's idea of dark and cool.

I can think of at least one other story with an unknown or otherwise mysterious skill that has massive drawbacks but is highly plot critical

Ep 2:

Kumoko's expressions are amazing. Anyway, it'll be probably a long while but I am already looking forward to seeing her reunite with Fei/Shun/Filimos. Especially since Fei seems to mention her a lot

Heh. Kumoko and her room. It's all made up by webs but she treats it like an ordinary room.

As a spider, I'm guessing she's going to get hungry quite often now. Pretty funny episode again as I had expected. The reality of her current life is straight out of an isekai fantasy so she better get used to it. I wonder how much the VA is enjoying her role as Kumoko.
