This should also prevent any spoilers in the anime thread

That's right. Lacia and her sisters do not survive and Higgins chooses to self terminate.

I expected this but it still heart-breaking thing, why they always take that kind of ending ending???????

*sigh* This exactly. It would be nice if they give us an actually happy ending in this kind of series once in a while.

I might stick around for the anime because I was looking forward to it, but my hype has dropped drastically, and the chances they’ll give us a happy ending in the anime are near-zero.

I think Japanese love harem and heart-breaking ending, they always make a series that build-up romance from zero and in the end shattering it -_-

Yeah... She's destroyed fighting PMC forces. But her remnants are remade into white, mass produced forms by the antibody network for guarding Higgins. Some of those do survive after helping Arato and co escape Higgins' facility. Oh right, Saturnus also survives

I don't think a happy ending where everyone survives would have worked narrative-wise TBH.....It was through Lacia's sacrifice that the Higgins AI was convinced to trust humanity. As long as the relationship between both species remained immature there was no way such a thing could have properly happened. Also it serves to highlight how Lacia and Arato have essentially become a composite entity by the end where they can trust each other even in such suicidal circumstances. It actually reminds me a bit of Chohei Kambayashi's writing style in his Yukikaze books.....Heck, BEATLESS can in a sense be described as shounen-ified Yukikaze.

It isn't. So many people say this is like Guilty Crown but other than the female lead dying and the art being Redjuice that's about the only similarities.

BEATLESS is hard sci-fi (with your standard anime tropes) about AI and their relationship with humans as well as how our world will be like in the next century after we have possibly entered the technological singularity. It is closer to the likes of Mardock and Yukikaze even if aimed at less hardcore audiences

Guilty Crown on the other hand is purely an action story with sci-fi-ish themes but it does not really go in depth into any of those themes. It is ultimately closer to action drama than hard sci-fi.

yeah, i got captivated when i saw redjuice did it's art.
yukikaze? you mean a movie where an AI is equipped inside an aircraft.
after watched first episode, i thought it's just some simple robot-human conflict,
seems interesting, but so shame nobody translate it, just wathing anime is not enough.

That's right...That Yukikaze (the first two books are TL-ed BTW. Very good TLs too. The translation work is one of the best for JP novels I have seen)

^I think the same but what I'm interested is on the reaction of the viewers if they reach the end of the novel.
