So it pretty much turned out to be an elaborate DEM after all. Well at least way it was made elaborate was fairly fun and emotional to watch even if some of those complications were a little unconvincing themselves. At the very least it was a pretty emotional reunion between Leerio and Gon. That was a very well directed moment.
There's still the matter of the whole "the bad guy just won" problem that I'm not sure how they're going to resolve. The anime doesn't seem to be making it out as the next doomsday so I can only assume they're going to go down the "he's not such a bad guy after all" route which would be a little weak and require a fair bit of extra explaining. Or they could make Pariston the next big bad. That would be interesting. Or Leorio still wins...if only... Interested in seeing Gon finally meet Ging. I can't help but find it highly amusing that the big original premise of the show was about Gon hunting his father but in the end he just ends up running into him by accident. If this is where Togashi stopped writing then I can sort of see why.

It was obvious. Leorio lose because Cheadle was setting a lot of Pariston reversal flags.
Everything is Cheadle's fault. Anyway, Togashi's sense is superb about a well-balanced plot of gain/lose something. This is not that easy. |

Finally the moment everybody was waiting for... except I didn't care about Gon but Pariston's exposition.
Also, what's with Illumi? That scene was one of the most cliche things from the series but I expect something to happen at least.

I hope Han Megumi brought her ID badge with her to the recording studio to dub this ep, or things might have gotten awkward.
I'm pretty much running out of superlatives for H x H at this point. It just keeps delivering on every level, over and over and over.

GON'S BACK!! Man, I'm glad to have my favourite character back in the house! Was reading Enzo's review of this ep, and yeah, the love Gon's friends have for him is amazing, especially Killua. A pure, genuine love.
I believe part of the reason why a lot of people are so attracted to Gon's because he reminds them of things they used to have, but lost (Killua, Kurapika and Leorio), qualities they'd like to have in themselves (Shoot), qualities that remind them of themselves and others (Netero, Nobunaga) and signs of great potential (Hisoka and many others). He's a promising and likeable kid, which is why it was sad to see what happened to him during the Ant arc. Pariston has excellent foresight and keen awareness, have to give him that. |

great episode again
gotta love how Ging & Pariston thinks... they're so far above the other zodiacs in this department. and they know it too. this is quite similar to Sora in NGNL, for truly the "contest" begins long before the actual game.

I really loved those moments of silent emotion when no one's saying anything and it's all just faces, expression, and tears. Killua's face when he sees Gon's hand, Morel's thumbs up and face full of tears after shotting Leorio's names, and the dawning of realization on Leorio's face as he watches Gon walk through that door all better.

Time really flies by when one watches HxH. From Pariston's trump cards, to Cheadle's discovery of defeat to Killua's resolve to save Gon to his need to keep it a secret to his devotion to his own sibling to the intense emotions of Leorio and the ominous wishes of Illumini and Hisoka in the background coupled with the anticipation of the outcome of the election and the fate of the main crew. I don't think I really need to say any more, but it's one hell of a ride.
