I actually liked the movie more than the book (then again, I was never that big a fan of the book). The core casting was quite good (especially Ezra Miller as Patrick), even some of the casting 'surprises' were well done (Mae Whitman as Mary Elizabeth, Paul Rudd as Mr. Anderson and Nina Dobrev as Candace). Overall, though, the story is a little too cliche and I was never a fan of the big reveal at the end. Also, how can none of these kids know David Bowie yet they know the Smiths, Rocky Horror, Sonic Youth, XTC, New Order and a few others? Still, it was better than I thought it was going to be 81/100. |

I liked the book more
Actually, i liked the book so much i immediately watched the movie straight after. Needless to say, that was not a good decision. On top of the usual, the book is always better complaints, i felt like it took the easy way out far too many times. It already cut out so many subplots from the book, but at least finish the ones you introduce... Like the whole his sister's boyfriend hitting her thing. "Oh, and my sister finally broke up with her boyfriend." Just a one liner for that...ok "Oh, and that girl i'm in love with? Turns out her boyfriend was cheating on her all this time!" Seriously, another one liner for that? |
