Another great episode.
So far, the series seams to be just tackling one shot problems of our main characters with a light overarching subplot regarding what they all want to do with their lives. This episode was a little more serious, when the very light of the team is darkened. Nagisa is having home troubles and so runs away. Seeing Nagisa's life and how he used to be was a little somber. However, having him to finally face his troubles and his parents and explain everything in regards to how he feels, was a great lesson to learn, and I'm glad he had all his bros backing him up. This season is good so far, though I kind of liked last season better since there was more drama and a more solid plot. This season just seems to be staying light and just showing little snippets of the boys' lives. Which is okay, but I just enjoyed last season a little more. And lastly, Haru again is a good friend here and we see he actually is beginning to consider the possibility of pro swimming, even if he continually says no. So, we do see some progress on his front, which is good.

This season could be an alternative universe to the first one I like it a lot more, actually, as there's no forced/dragged out drama. Even when I thought Sousuke was about to bring it back, he got the memo pretty fast.
I really liked having a Nagisa-centered episode; he was definetly my most underrated character. I feel he's a little more fleshed out and hope he'll keep growing until the end of the series to be more than just the happy-go-lucky cutie Honey. |

A decent episode. Got some development and laughs. It was nice seeing more Ama-chan. I didn't like the lack of Gou. Actually, I didn't mind that. What I didn't like is the lack of Gou in an episode without much Rin. It feels like she's tied more to her brother than her own team.

ep 5 was good. I like how we see what's really going on behind the seemingly always smiling face of Nagisa. But is there a theme here with Rei always be the one to resolve other people's relationships/problems? First Haru/Rin and now Nagisa...and he gets such poor screen time compared to the others...poor guy.
Ah, poor Makoto getting trolled twice this episode; first by Nagisa at the beginning then by Nagisa again into believing the existence of Pangaea at this present time... Pfft...Haru, being easily bribed with Mackerel food cans; hope they were good quality cans, at least! I hope the show finally returns to focusing on these four; I enjoy watching them more than Rin and co.

this episode was great. favorite of the season thus far. though i can't help but feel for Makoto. they never even showed his time for the 200m. its pretty obvious that he always makes sacrifices for his friends and this time he wanted to do something for himself. what a bro.

pretty good episode this week. The little development with Makoto wanting to swim a serious race against Haru kinda felt like it came out of nowhere, but that's my only real gripe. Not seeing Nagisa's parents fully-designed is kind of a bummer, and having Rei's race become a fast-cut sequence was also disappointing, but funny at the same time. I was really rooting for him to win, and he did!

I seriously thought Rei was going to lose that race haha.
I liked this episode a lot. We saw a lot of sides to different characters. It's nice seeing both of the Mikoshiba brothers together, and their love for Gou. It was touching to see makoto's desire to race Haru. I like when he said he's jealous of Rin. Yandere Makoto incoming!! I wish we saw Nagisa's parents, but I'm glad they came. It was nice seeing the whole group wat lunch together. I found myself cheering a ton during the swim scenes, especially when Haru beat Rin. |

What a wonderful set of races! Everyone preformed pretty well and it was also a very good look at the relationships between the childhood friends and how that relationship is affected by future friendships.
It was great that Nagisa's parents came and I found the Mikoshiba brothers hilarious as they cheer each other on and yet fight over Gou. However, the main part of this episode is a look at Makoto and his relationship with Haru. Like Sousuke and Rin, the two are childhood friends, and we can see that Makoto's mother hen personality has been there since the beginning. He's always been the one to make sacrifices and make them gladly to make others happy. However, for once he wanted something to call him own, and he wanted to race Haru for real just as Rin does. Of course Mako isn't trained really for freestyle like Haru is, so his pacing was off and he lost in the last stretch. However, despite his loss, he got what he wanted by swimming with Haru, which was a real race. And yet, even in that, you can still see a sense of jealousy still there, that despite his friendship with Haru, their race is nowhere near the electric rivalry that is Haru and Rin. I think Sousuke feels it too, but on the opposite end. He's really just in the same position as Makoto, as the childhood friend that watches on and knows that despite their friendship, he just doesn't have the same zing as when Haru and Rin are racing together. Those two are almost completely in sync, as anytime one makes progress and gets faster, the other does the same, and at the end of the race, the two pretty much tied. (I mean, 0.02 seconds? Come on!) However, Sousuke seems to still be carrying this weird chip on his shoulder. He downed almost every swimmer that lost, and then got on Rin for getting second place to a person that won by 0.02 seconds! Lighten up, guy! Have some fun! However, I think things might be coming to a head next week as both Haru and Rin are having arguments with their childhood friends once the relay is over and they come back home. Rin looks like he might just bite someone's head off with those teeth.
