Damn, got distracted. Anyway, it had less to do with it being Kisara and more to do with the idea of a girl being NTR'd away from the protagonist.

To put it bluntly, the harem genre is built around the idea of self-insertion. I believe Rentaro is a strong and interesting character, not some cardboard cut-out. However, the reason most authors add harem elements is because guys like to imagine situations where they are surrounded by several unrealistically attractive women. Having one of those women "stolen" pretty much ruins the fantasy and leaves a sour taste in the readers mouth.

More than liking Kisara, I like Rentarou and Kisara's relationship, the type that bicker all the time but both would do anything for the other's happiness. Also, the idea of him being in love with her for 10 years already gives quite a kick.

In vol 5, Rentarou many times states that he'd do anything for her, even sacrificing his own happiness if Kisara can be happy. It was pretty heartbreaking to see Rentarou pushed Kisara away after he got arrested. Rentarou thought that Kisara wouldn't be able to obtain happiness by his side, so he, after internally confessing that he loved her, told her to never come see him again. After seeing a crying Kisara leave, Rentarou sobbed and said "Don't go, Kisara-san. Save me..." (kinda like the scene in Attack on Titan ep1 when Eren's mom told Eren and Mikasa to leave her behind but then asked them to not go). left with the pain of forever losing something irreplaceable, Rentarou tried to suppressed his crying voice.

As sad as it is, I don't like the idea of a dude not pushing forward to be with the girl he loves...But then again, I always have a soft spot for dudes that cries this much for his girl. Oh well, at least he supposedly worked through this problem in vol 6.

I actually really hate the whole childhood friend x years thing.

It's just a excuse to have a easy romance plot without actually developing the romance.

Well yeah that's true. Rentaro's (still using it since easier to type) dedication is heartwarming but then again other girls don't stand a chance anymore.

On a side note I can already see future shipping wars break out between the Enju/Rentaro shippers and the Kisara/Rentaro shippers once the anime comes out and the novel translation officially goes underway.

It'll be beautiful.

Well, I guess its only NTR like because we all know Rentarou loves her since technically they are not dating so what she's doing is fair game. Also, the dude didn't even have the balls to make her his, so I'm not sure how else Kisara should be saving herself for him. On that note, I'd love to read stuff from Kisara's POV . It's quite clear how much Rentarou loves her, but not sure about Kisara.

Hopefully Log will have time to finish the summary of vol 2. I can't wait to read it .

R: Did you like Hitsuma?
After some painful silence, Kisara answers while still facing forward.
K: I don't know. But I think it probably wasn't love.
R: But didn't you kiss him?
Right after asking that, Rentarou feels a bit shameful for asking such a question. But his self loathing is nothing compares to Kisara's panic. After asking "Did you see?", Kisara frantically explains.
K: It wasn't like that. I blocked with my palm just like this. The time when Hitsuma-san got closer, I also pushed him away like this..."

Kisara realizes that what she said sounded like excuses. Kisara frantically tries to think about what to say to make Rentarou believe her. Seeing her frantic expression, Rentarou realizes that he's been needlessly worried over nothing and bursts out laughing.

K: Nothing happened to me like what Satomi-kun thinks. So, I'm... still a virgin..."
R: "Oh, oh."

Hearing those ecchi words from Kisara, both get flustered and go back to cooking.
[They talk about some random talk about some old dude living in Hokkaido I think.]
Even though he's just giving her a cooking lesson, looking from behind, it looks like Rentarou's hugging her.

R: How come you only wear your uniform? Have you been trying to match me?
K: It's convenient to wear uniform. it's also appropriate for work so I don't have to change after school. I have normal clothes but I *really* don't have as much like other girls".
R: How about I buy you some clothes next time?
K: Sure. Then I'll get you buy me something expensive.
Kisara twirls around, swaying in her short skirt. Rentarou clumsily continues.
R: But the kimono you wore at the marriage meeting was very beautiful. The wedding dress was also nice. But just as I thought, your black uniform suits you the best. It's really beautiful. Really.
Kisara is quite surprised at what Rentarou said.

How come love is such an asymmetrical existence. The weight of your feelings for the other and her feeling for you don't quite match up. To reach equilibrium, one side will have to move forward. Just what can Rentarou do to pass this pain in his chest to Kisara? It's irritating as his voice become husky and words don't come out. In front of the person he loves, Rentarou himself is so clumsy with words to the point he wants to die. Instead of relying on unhelpful words, Rentarou takes a step forward.

R: Ki, Kisara-san...

Rentarou puts his hand around Kisara's slender waist and pulls her closer. In Rentarou's chest, Kisara lets out a small gasp. As Rentarou inches closer to this perfectly constructed face, a sweet scent tickles his nostrils. Kisara's cheeks deeply redden. She moves her body as if trying to run away.

K: No...Satomi's kun, where are you touching...
R: You know, the time at the cell room.
K: Eh?

Rentarou lowers his head to Kisara's ear.

R: I'm really sorry that I said those horrible words and rejected you. I was totally an idiot. I shouldn't have said those words. Even though it takes this long to say this, I'm very happy that you came back to me. Thank you, Kisara-san.
From the corner of surprised Kisara's eyes, a surge of liquid wells up and streams down her cheek. Kisara wipes the corner of her eyes, lifts her long eyelashes and looks at Rentarou with gentle narrowed eyes. It was a crying while smiling expression.

K: You fool. I've always been waiting for these words.
R: Kisara-san...

Overwhelmed with emotions over Kisara's beauty, Rentarou moves closer to her face. As if realizing what's happening, Kisara blushes so deeply that even her ears are red. She moves her face away.

K: Wait, Satomi-kun...As I thought, this is...no good. I'll be so embarrassed that I'll die.

If this was the normal Rentarou, he'd surely respect Kisara's feelings and let her go. However, Rentarou is tired of this agony that has no answer. Even if this is destruction inducing, he won't settle it until it happens. Rentarou slightly let go of Kisara.

R: Ah. If Kisara-san doesn't want it, I'll stop for now.
K: Real..Really?
K: I lied.

Rentarou whispered in her ear. Forcefully, he kissed her.

Sumire said:"If you honestly wish for Kisara's happiness only, from now on, you'll have to keep killing your own happiness. I won't forgive you if you do it halfheartedly. Can you swear?"

Rentarou's broken the promise with Sumire.
Rentarou's realization hasn't changed. Kisara's engagement with Hitsuma was so that Kisara could forget about revenge and keep on living. In order to do that, even if Rentarou's love was to be broken, as long as [Tendou that kills Tendou] was eternally sealed, it would be a good thing. That was how it should be...
It is said that being in love is being crazy.

Rentarou's been crazy for Kisara.
He's been festered/inflamed in this love (not sure how to put it nicely).
Her revenge can no longer be stopped.
Surely, this love will cause world's destruction.
In the end, Rentarou took a selfish step. One day, he'll have to pay for this. Wouldn't he regret it if the only way to stop Kisara was to give up this moment?
There is no way Rentarou's "righteousness", which he's been fighting for, will intersect with Kisara's "absolute evil".
From now on, wont't the gap between Rentarou and Kisara widen as she draws her blade to hunt down Tendou's enemies? Perhaps these sweet days won't come again. Perhaps, right now, Rentarou and Kisara are falling down from the top of the slope and come crashing into hatred.
However..
From now on, now matter how much their relationship deteriorates, no matter how much they curse each other or even if they pierce their chests with the blade of hatred...just now, just for now, he wants to surrender himself to the sensation of these soft lips.
He pushes Kisara against the refrigerator and fiercely sucks her lips ( or kisses her, going for a very literal translation here lol). Kisara's soft bosom collides with Rentarou's chest. Softly pressing against it, her bosom changes its shape. As if being entranced, Kisara closed her eyes and wrapped her hands around Rentarou's neck.
Even though Rentarou wanted to bask in this pleasure, he couldn't get Sumire's dark-toned whisper out of his mind.

Just some thoughts.

Sumire's quotes are all from vol 5. After confessing that he loves Kisara to Sumire, Rentarou explains that the reason he can't bring Kisara happiness is because his fake arm/leg/eye will forever remind Kisara of her parent's death. Rentarou wants her to know what there are other things worth living for other than revenge. He'll do anything for her, even if it means to physically separate him and her. After getting arrested, Rentarou is very happy that she chooses him over anything else. she basically said the same thing he did, as long as it's for his sake, she'd do anything. So Rentarou, for her sake, pretenda to be a "douche" and tells her to never come again as he just doesnt want to see her face again. Dude then sobs his heart out as she walks away.

It might just be just me, but it seems like Rentarou's love for her is deeper than hers for him lol. Maybe it only seems this way since we just have direct access to Rentarou's thoughts. Either way, this is quite some love he has for Kisara. How did he manage to fall this madly in love with her?

I do love that the author gradually showed the depth of his love for her. It goes like :
vol 1: hmm, he probably has a crush on her.
vol 2: damn, looks like he's about to confess when she offers to hold hands with him.
vol 3: he is deeply hurt when Kisara shouts that she's not dating him and won't marry him. Dude is then mesmerized by her beauty and wants to tell her just how beautiful she is, or to hold her hand if he can gather up some courage.
vol 4: he almost confesses in the corner of the tent (with a few others watching them but since they're deep their 2 people's world they don't notice it. Tina cockblocks him though.). He later admits that he's always wanted to hold her and monopolize her.
Vol 5: frankly stating his love.
Vol 6: Finally took the dive.

I kinda want to know if he/she knows the other loves her/him. Kisara always says that he's hers, but it could be taken in the sense that hes her employee. Rentarou also has those moments of almost confessing and the like. Either way, Rentarou is quite bold at the end there. He seems very confident that she won't reject him. That whole make out scene is strangely erotic.

Since the showdown is so blatantly "foreshadowed" that I don't think anything too serious is gonna happen. After all, Rentarou has to exercise his hero's rights to save the girl. I also think the whole "tendou that kills tendou" and "absolute evil" are a bit overly dramatized. Either way, it looks like their relationship is gonna be the main thread from now on. Being Rentarou is seriously suffering.

On a side note, it's quite interesting that Tina and Enju leave them alone hugging each other when they united in the earlier chapter. They also didnt make any comment as Rentarou and Kisara held hands the whole time on the way home.
