Germany shows the Dutch how to win games. Good movements and finishing to get ahead. Then close down the game expertly with good possessions and time wasting. Even when RVP pulled one back with an individual effort, Netherlands did not look likely to draw level. The feeling of Germany having total control is pretty scary, and we are yet to see them kicking up their top gear.

Netherlands disappoint once again. The double sub arguably made matters worse by conceding the midfield to Germany, allowing Germans to keep possession with ease. They even let Hummels dribble all the way to the box and shoot twice, FFS.

Mathematically Netherlands can still qualify, but the uphill battle is probably too much for this individualistic and mentally ill-prepared team.

Two great games, I think Marwijk's initial approach was better with two holding midfielders but the players were absolutely rubbish (except for Sneijder) never pressuring the Germans who could pass around at a leisure pace.
Gomez though bloody hell, that first goal what a beauty (along the entire play before hand)

As for Portugal vs Denmark: Ronaldo, what a choker he nearly cost Portugal the game not just because of the missed goals but also because of his inability to defend. The Portuguese left flank looks so fragile. Holland needs to exploit this if they want to win.

Funny trivia: Throughout the first two games, Gomez had possession of the ball for 22 seconds combined. He scored three goals

I was a bit miffed at Germany's obvious unwillingness to seriously attack the goal in the second half, but they clearly tried to just lock down the game for minimum energy. It could have failed, actually. But alas.

Holland still has a fighting chance. I consider it quite possible that they beat Portugal by 2 goals, and then they only need Germany to defeat Denmark.

The Dutch performance was dreadful. Van Marwijk is finished, going by the media and the club forums who are calling for his head. It's clear he can't adapt the team to changing conditions.

Van Marwijks 4-2-3-1 with two defensive midfielders worked in the WC2010 but now Van Bommel's legs have gone the simply midfield breaks in two and collapses. Sneijder had to basically run the midfield by himself as De Jong is a simple destroyer.

This already started to show near the end of the qualifying run but Van Marwijk refused to replace the old guard with young midfield talent like Anita, Clasie, Maher and Strootman. Who are all a lot better in possession than De Jong and Van Bommel.

The Netherlands main defensive quality is the ability to hold possession. But this get's compromised with the dual defensive midfielder strategy. The second half against Germany things improved a bit with De Jong, VDV and Snijeder in a 4-3-3 with a single holding midfielder but the game was pretty much over by then.

Germany is a bit harder to judge. They are a well organized team but haven't really been tested against the Netherlands and Portugal who have both been disappointing.

It hasn't been the most decisive of wins, but Germany yet again secures a win and get themselves another three points. Great job by Gomez, 3 goals in 2 games...his ruthless efficiency is what the Netherlands desperately needs.

Congratulations to Portugal as well, despite Bendtner's best effort Portugal walk away with three points, thus giving Netherland's their last lifeline. That would be quite hard to though...Germany beating Denmark I can see happening (won't be easy as the Danes will be fighting for their surivival as well), but beating Portugal by 2 goals or more won't be an easy task. Sorry to say but despite them both losing by 1 goal to Germany, Portugal looks better than the Netherlands. Bert really needs to think hard to find a way to defeat them, it really will not be easy.

Netherlands now have their fate under their own hand and the mercy of German.

Germany won't want to lose to lose top spot so can't sustain a lost. But if Netherlands going gungho over Portugal (and seriously, if they play like a team, they can easily win, with pride at stake for not ending the group last), the German may just share the spoil with Denmark and knock both Portugal and Netherlands out early

Seriously, if it wasn't for the super-sub by Portugal, there would be a high chance that Denmark would be the one joining Germany in the next round (if Germany and Denmark drew, both of them would definitely be in the next round if the above scenario actually happened). Pepe and Nani were pretty solid for the match, but Ronaldo's really trying too much there. Shoulder applaud Bendtner for the effort though.

And for the Dutch team, I think the fans expected more out of them, but that's how sports (and life in general) goes. It would be tough for them to even draw with a very motivated Germany, but hardly anybody expected them to lose to Denmark like that. I think they got caught too much in the drama around selection (egos) and are unwillingly to play as a team, which may be their downfall.

I dunno if this true or not but Russia lose 6 points due to what their fans behave. They also join Holland for not making to the quarter-finals.

I think it's more of a suspended sentence instead. According to Soccernet (not per say very reliable, but better than nothing), they'll lose 6 points if their fans don't behave in the next game.

As for the Dutch, they can still make it to the next round, just most unlikely amongst the teams. They have to beat Portugal by at least 2 goals and hope that Germany beat Denmark. (Germany only needs a draw to secure top spot though, so I don't know if they want to send in their reserves for the game instead).

The only team that's definitely out is Greece.

Germany cannot afford to lose the next game. In case 3 teams end with 6 points, there is a small chance that Portugal and Denmark will go through. So it is probably unwise to play their reserves from the start.

Netherlands lost to Denmark because of poor finishing. Not ego. Not drama. Just poor finishing.

Portugal and Holland are out of the tournament.
If the end result between Germany and Denmark is 3-2 (or 4-3, 5-4 etc.) in favour of the Danish then Germany and Denmark both qualify regardless of the result between Portugal and Holland (even if Portugal wins 10-0 and ends up with 6 points as well than Germany and Denmark will still go through).
And considering both teams are known to pull off such results in the past, I'm not going to expect something different this time.

Rather than playing with reserves, Germany will just reduce the pace, hold off the ball, play it slow. Will reduce injuries chance and stamina lost that way.

There's only a small chance that they will actually play for a draw. But they will not be motivated for a win, and that is enough for a 0-0 result to pan out (especially when Denmark also would fancy that, rather than going all out and suffer a lost).

Then to say the truth, the risks which Russia or whatever team in group A posed, will be less than Netherlands or Portugal eitherway. Especially when Germany is trying to win the tournament.

Italy was great in the first half, Croatia looked like nothing to contribute to the match and this completely reversed in 2nd half.
So many comebacks in this Euro, unbelievable.
