Finally watched the simulcast replay of episode 3.

After seeing the offerings float into away into the sky and Fam sheds a tear while she gives up her own prayer for all the departed, I was finally reminded of what the original series really meant to me. War is merely a setup for a tale that is, in it's core, a story about humans and their humanity.

In just 4 episodes Fam is slowly inching up on Ohana as my favorite female lead of the year.

In her blog a couple of hours ago, Yuuki Aoi has offered us her drawing of her character, Giselle. She says she hopes it will substitute for Hallowe'en candy and we won't play any tricks on her.



Ao-chan says she loves Giselle, who is totally moe, gentle and kind, as well as being really into machines. She says she'd like to marry her, and that she would be so soft to hold. Then she apologizes for going too far. She posted at 2:24am Monday, Tokyo time.

The Silvana was known to have really good ears (I mean trying to find distinct sounds in the howling winds of the Grand Stream 2 years ago was a feat in itself- but I'm handing most of the points to the Disith Recording) so I'm expecting the Silvius to be on par or even better.

Damn, each time that I wtach an episode of this wonderful serie, I can't help but think about Claus and Lavy. Where are they ?

Other than that, great episode as always. The first part was interesting since we learned more about Ades. I was surprsied to see that the Empress Augusta is a child. In the end, they have their own reason for fighting. From what I understand it's for those who were here before the colonist. But it's not said if the colonist killed them or not when they came back to Earth.

The second part was great too. I really like our three heroine. They are great each of them in their own way, strong yet fragile. The last part of this episode with the respect to the dead was beautiful.

Now, I can't wait for the next ep and the reunion between Dio, Tatiania and Alister. Hope they will talk a bit about Claus and Lavy. I want to know where they are

Yup, their tech plus the Silvana's listening officer was awesome, she was also what contributed to that reputation.

Yeah, I've been thinking that with Dio as well, he knew that something would happen (where he tells Fam she's going to have a busy day, while Fam and Giselle both confusedly point out they've got nothing on the schedule) which made me think he's getting external intel. And then there's the line where Dio says that Sophia and the King of Turan both agreed to let him do what he wanted, which made me think he's had some recent contact with our Sophia, so it's certainly believable that Dio is in on everything. And out of everyone he's the one who's bringing up the Silvius likely knowing what Fam's reaction would be to the news. Hehe, Fam's reaction is going to be memorable lol.

Man Dio really is the perfect natural way to link up the two groups just as he is one who's tying the new and old cast together until some of them show up with some of his actions and little cryptic nods.

Agreed, that meeting was a well-timed new wrinkle to the story and nicely fleshed out. Ades seemingly fighting for the people who are already living on Earth and are getting pushed aside as more people return to the planet is potentially quite interesting in adding another dimension to Ades as not entirely one-sided and giving them a reason for fighting. It was nice to see a little more light shed on Ades' motivations especially when they talked about the people that had lost their land when Turan was formed and are now facing harsh conditions and how Sara's motivation is clearly shown as compassion for the citizens, even if the way they are going about it is less sympathetic.

As MeoTwister5 said, this episode really added that extra layer into the new story with Fam, Giselle, and Millia's reactions and the new wrinkles from that Ades meeting that really has the potential to elevate the entire show. I hope they can keep this up because with these three episodes it's clear they have all the pieces to have one heck of a memorable story with some really memorable characters, just like the first series.

@Cosmic Eagle, MrTerrorist -- The little empress's actual name is Sara, but I believe she is called the Augusta, i.e., the "August One." August in the sense of eminent, majestic, inspiring reverence. It was a title of the first Roman emperor, who is usually known as Augustus. "Augusta" is the feminine form of the word, and was later sometimes applied to a Roman emperor's wife or mother.

Speaking of her mother's death, it seems there's a decent number of hints tying how/when her mother died to back when Liliana knew Luscinia as a nicer person too since Liliana mentioned her and something she said or that was expressed at the last Grand Race when trying to get through to him and she's seen behind them in that flashback to when Liliana's remembering a kind Luscinia when she was a kid. I also noticed that Luscinia messes with his bracelet thing again right after she is reminisced over.

I love how wonderfully and naturally the two new revelations about Atamora's past, as seemingly a winner of the Grand Race along with the flashback of him taking in Fam, adds to Atamora's character. I always loved that about the first series, so many characters beyond the main players feel like they have a past or motives to them thereby making the world/setting really come alive.

Yeah lol, going after the successor of the "Kill-'Em-All" Silvana, that's probably not going to play out as she plans

Somehow, I really doubt that Tatiana is letting somebody else fly a red vanship, but at the same time maybe she painted all of the Silvius's vanships red.

Although, my speculation is that the Tatiana is flying that ship. She wear a pilot jacket as opposed to a cape and she have no captain "throne". Maybe she doesn't spend that much time in the bridge. She did say she preferred to fly in the first season too.

Also, that red vanship in the preview have a cable attached to it, but the sky is all blue. (I can dream.)

Fam is crazy! I don't think her plan will work. I will be disappointed if it does.

What I think would like to see happen:
1) Have Fam give a message well steal your ship again like with the Turian flag ship but this time get rebutted and her making a comment about not liking people who don't understand their situation.

2) Fam probably dogging artillery fire kinda like what Claus did when he got to the Silvana.

3) Tatiana going out and teaching her a lesson in air combat kinda like what Dio did to Claus.

4) Dio steeping on the Silvius's flight deck and saying "Tadahima" only to be greeted by "Okari" and Fam going WTH!!!

Just some of my hopes for episode 4, bring back some nostalgia and a bit of comedy.

My view of the Ades Federation is SLIGHTLY higher than before after this episode. There is clearly some history involved in why they are attacking the "returner" countries. It was apparently the returners that attacked indigenous peoples and displaced them in the first place. (Granted two wrongs don't make a right)

Augusta is obviously sheltered from the full details, being so young. As far as she's concerned peoples of her country were driven off their lands by Returners, so it's only right to reclaim the lands for them, etc. I doubt she knows the Ades commanders are trying to wipe out the population. (Thats what the one guy said right? Pseudo genocide?) Or am I wrong? He did say the other cities were surrendering, and I doubt the King would have them do that if they were just going to get killed.

I wonder if we'll see Millia try to learn how to pilot a vanship now and other chores around the base.

And hell yes we finally get the Sylvana Mk2 introduction. I wonder what their role is now that they came back with the Exile. Sounds like they're still rabble-rousers. I doubt their ship is "overpowered" anymore though, as the Federation seems to have quite advanced ships themselves.

Here's my theory. The Ades Generals spoke of some unidentified ships in passing when discussing the war. Could the "Last Exile" and the people who came with it be the force that is causing mischief there? Because one would assume the Ades Federation, having been around as long as it's implied they have, would generally know everyone they are fighting.

My guess is that Sophia saw the people of Anatoray arrive on Earth to a place that wasn't quite the peaceful paradise envisioned, and the last two years have been spent covertly gaining intelligence and maybe sporadic conflicts as she tries to decide how to deal with letting her countrymen (and Dsith's) return to an Earth that isn't necessarily open armed at the prospect.

Dio, being Dio, could be much like the Green Berets who're sent into places like Vietnam and Afghanistan, to scope out local folks, learn their ways, and possibly convert them to Sophia's use if the need and inclination should arise.

For whatever reason, Dio has fixated on Fam, much the same way he once fixated on Claus, and perhaps his goal is to pull Fam and the Sky Pirates into the Anatory fold. It's possible Sophia has no intentions of stopping the people of her Prester from returning to Earth, and it would seem she'll have to deal with Ades in some way.

Anyways, another thing I'm wondering about is the last Grand Race. If the former Ades Empress died back then, and the peace was broken, I wonder if it's because she was assassinated. Perhaps by a "returnee" as Luscinia would view it. Maybe that's when he lost his eye and gained his hate towards those he doesn't view as natives.

As beautiful and nice as that scene was, I could not help myself thinking that the balloons would pop from the fire, creating a bombardment of candles and/or fires on the poor souls below.

As nice as the music is so far, it just does not feel as godly as the originaly series' music. Granted, it is hard to live up to something like that, but it is still doing a fairly decent job. The music is good, but not awesome beyond words like it was before.

Is it the right thing to do? It can be, depending on whose perspective you are looking at (the original inhabitants or the current colonists).

I guess another factor you would have to consider is how the original inhabitants were treated or compensated. If they sold the land or were incorporated into the society with high standings, then Ades should not have moral justification. If they were mistreated, then Ades could be the hero those people were waiting for.

For some reason, I feel like her mother's death was related to this whole event. If there is someone else pulling per strings, I would guess that it is someone whom we have not seen in the show yet, who is more powerful (like the guild in the previous series). She seems to think that she is doing right, and her followers seem to believe so as well. Could this be a case of naive innocence creating suffering for others without her realizing as such?
