Kitauji won national gold.
Kumiko restarts dating Shuichi after that.
Reina, who is Kumiko's special someone, went music college abroad after graduation.
few years later, Kumiko returns to Kitauji as a teacher and vice advisor to the band club.

sad news about Kyoanime, it might be a long time, if ever, would we see this parts of story being animated. even if they ever get back on their feet, without the original staffs and files, it would not be the same.

Okay, how exactly does that work? I mean, obviously "special someone" and "dating" mean two different things, but I'm not sure of the particulars they have in mind.

Overall, it sounds like a good way to wrap up the story. Any word on what happens to Sapphire/Midori?

You know, a few years down the road, I could see Kumiko ending up with Taki-sensei. She's kinda similar to his wife after all, and I assume he was still the club's advisor when she took the position of vice-advisor at the end of the final novel.

You're assuming Reina would still be interested him, and not just be fondly remembering him as her schoolgirl crush. College can change a person, after all. Besides, if she's going to be "special" as a musician, she won't want to stay tied to a high school teacher in some out-of-the-way town.

^ Actually, I think it would be for the better if she got over it and moved on. But the novel built her up to be such an obsessive person it's hard to imagine she would ever get over it.

I have not read the novel yet (still on my desk) as I am still trying to get over with what happened at Kyoto Animation Studio 1. It broke my heart.

Anyways, I am not gonna read the spoiler until I read it but it seems like at least one of my three main predictions came off based on the comments above. Oh, well.

The Government of Japan is considering taking measures that would enable the domestic and international donations made in favour to help the families of the victims and the studio to recover reach the intended targets. It will introduce new tax breaks for donation made in favour of Kyoto Animation. Other plans include helping Kyoto Animation recreate the young animator training programme which is now gone because of the destruction of Studio 1.

Meanwhile, Kyoto Animation has decided to give Chikai no Finale more screenings in Tokyo next month.

exactly as I phrased it, Shuichi is the boyfriend, Reina is someone special to Kumiko, just as Asuka is special to Kaoru, the novel emphasizing that point by making the comparison.

as to Midori, she went to some college which is not music related, can't remember now, either fashion/clothing or nurse? (I am confusing her with someone else.)

that is almost impossible, in the end of novel, while not stated, but strongly hinted, Kumiko married Shuichi, or at least still dating. (the hair-pin)

one more thing from reading the book instead of synopsis. it might be more than a few years passed (after Kumiko graduated from college) by in the epilogue than I first imagined,

1. the cherry tree planted on the year Kumiko graduated is tall enough that one need to raise her head to look at it, and big enough to cast a shade,

2. and Kumiko unlike her student days, it would be hard for her physically to carry music instrument up and down the school stairs.

3. while the ending by making Kumiko the vice advisor of the club and leave it open for Taki to be still around, it does look like Kumiko is running the daily business of the club by herself,
