Anime cons aren't largely advertised so it's easy to miss them. The reason I can attend them often is because I have friends who go to them as well. If one of us finds out about a con on a nearby location, the others get informed. For example, in this one, it's Mimi (the girl cosplaying Umi from MKR) who informed me about it. So I knew about the con weeks before it's going to happen.
