Still, shows the insane ability of a creature at this level. Reg had it. He was at point blank range and it still managed to dodge in the instant that the blast forced him to let go of it. Geeze....the creatures that exist even at this range are insane.
Interesting info about the 'curse' itself though. And that ties well to the sickness noted at the start of the episode. For some it seems even being in proximity to that pit is deadly. If you just leave the area though and get really far away....you're fine. This whole pit though is just a big pitcher plant. A literal death trap that won't let you go once you get in there. That curse functions like a barbed arrow or something. You can go in, but getting out....

More, the people of Orth have made the mistake of thinking that they're safely outside of the Abyss, and I think this curse of birthday death is going to show them how mistaken that assumption is. Assuming any of them live long enough to realize it.

Of course they could have changed the story to fit into a 12 episode time frame, but that would have definitely sealed the fate of the series to not having a second season. From that point of view, having episode 12 reach a middle point keep the hopes alive, don't you think?

This assumption is directly counter to one of the major, modern motivations for adapting manga and light novels into anime: driving up book sales. Anime producers often don't want to finish the story because if the anime isn't green-lit for a second season they at least want viewers to go out and buy the books to sate their appetite. They generally don't take into account that there might be foreign viewers who can't buy translated copies of the books they're trying to shill.

And, to be blunt, since when has giving an ongoing series an anime-original ending ever worked out well? The anime is meant to get you hooked on the manga so you can get your next fix in published form. If not for the manga and my curiosity driving me to read ahead, I wouldn't have given the series the time of day based on the art-style alone.

Episode 13 (finale):
So we get to see Mitty and Nanachi's story including when she used to be human. It's told from Nanachi's point of view to Reg. This series' finale shows a darker side of experiments and how Mitty turned into a Narehate. I actually think it was pretty thought provoking as it details how grim this anime can get. Pretty thrilling finale with the emotions. The part with Mitty's transformation really took my breath awhile with the horror. Thought this finale was unique with the amount of narratives even compared to the other epiosdes. Not to mention, it has a longer length than some of the other episodes. Nanachi's tears and emotions made me tear up a little inside. Glad to see Riko waking up and spending more time with Reg. Very good show overall, enjoyed it from start to finish. Such an emotional journey. No season 2 announced but of course, that's no surprise.
