hahaha! i thought so...tbh i was 50/50 on this one ~ on one side...he has all the features of a male...but on the flip side he seems to have breasts and also seems to be spoken to as a girl ~ but i took a gamble on guessing...pff would have been more interesting to have a girl with a Mustache imo

I assume that they've called him "kanojo" (her) only because of his okama-like mannerisms.

You know... a "prima donna" is also used to refer to females (it literally means "first lady"), yet it's quite common to call men "prima donna" as well, for their attitudes. Masumi is like that.

The raw of episode 3: priceless - more hilarity and an unexpected joining of forces.

I absolutely LOVE this show!

OMG! I didn't know what these series was about except that it was about music. I watched today the 2 eps and... oh my! It's honey & clover successor!

Not exactly right. "Prima donna" isn't really used to indicate okama-like behaviours by a man, but it's specifically used to denote a person's egocentrism and protagonism. The expression "prima donna" (which is italian by the way, in case some people didn't know) derives from the character of the main female protagonist of an opera/play, which is usually performed by a woman with a diva-like attitude who thinks very highly of herself. That's the origin of the term, but nowadays in italian society it's often used on both genders to indicate a person's attitude in a working group or in a group of people (someone who thinks highly of himself/herself, who thinks he/she should be the first and most important one of the group and so on). You get the idea.

Did I equate okama with prima donna-like behaviour? No, I did not.

I think it was clearly understood that it was just an example of a similar transformed gender attribution.

No problem.

BTW, how long is the manga? And how much material (in percents?) would they be able to fit into 23 episodes? Anyone wants to make an estimate?

I haven't read the manga yet, but I recall reading somewhere that the anime won't probably cover all of the volumes and should stop at some point, most likely because the manga is still ongoing. Maybe the producers might consider making a second season just like they did with Honey & Clover.

Um, yeah. The manga is like up to volume 16 and I would hate to see them try to pack everything in one season. Its going about the same pace as the drama, so Im guessing it will end where the drama ended; although, I can't speak for the later episodes since we are only at episode 3 and I haven't finished watching the drama. I definitely would like to see them cover the later arc found in the manga, though - whether by second season or whatever.

Quick question: Are the Frothbite subs lower quality due to the lower file size? Or are they just more size efficient encodes?

I actually like the way both groups are subbing the series - if you watch each
you get a slightly different viewpoint on the same story.

Tiberium Wolf was right, partly, that it had a Honey and Clover feel - primarily
due to the timing of comedic bits, artistic decisions on reactions to things
(big eyes, strangely shaped mouths at times, etc.) and the pure vocal talent
of the entire crew - I'm just digging this.

I imagine that even Umino Chika would like this series - it has a little bit
of the quality that H&C has on everyday situations and the visual arts
(the school in H&C was an arts college) and the musical arts (Nodame
Cantabile being set at a music college) really they're kind of similar in
terms of young creative people trying to find their way thru life and school.

after only two (three including raws) episodes, nodame cantabile has established itself as an adroit combination of comedy, drama, romance, and, of course, classical music. i look forward to the development of the relationship between chiaki and nodame.
